Ever wonder why you're so tired all the time?
You
might not be drinking enough water.
A 1999 study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association suggests that the fatigue we sometimes feel can be traced directly back to inadequate hydration--and that grabbing a water tumbler instead of a cat nap will keep us peppier and more alert throughout the day.
Fast Fact #1: Inadequate water consumption is the number one factor contributing to daytime fatigue. Fast Fact #2: 75% of us walk around during the day suffering from the effects associated with chronic dehydration. Fast Fact #3: Even mild dehydration can slow down a normal metabolism by as much as 3% But be careful what you drink. Some of the beverages we normally associate with a quick boost can actually have the opposite effect--by taking away more fluid from the body than they put in, contributing to further dehydration and subsequently more fatigue.
Alas, some of these diuretic liquids include coffee and sugary carbonated drinks--things most of us like to reach for when we need a lift.
Don't be fooled. Although an energy buzz is indeed a byproduct of the consumption of some of these drinks, the high is short term--and the fall back into lethargy later is much more pronounced as water is leached away from the body by the diuretic properties of the drink.
Think of your body as a flower...
You wouldn't pour a can of soda into your pot of prized begonias, now would you?
For consistent and sustained energy levels, go for the H
2O--and eschew the Mountain Dew.
