| | J. P. Morgan Chase in trouble? | | Might too big to fail be given a test? This article claims that J. P. Morgan Chase's Enron problems are only the tip of the iceberg, that JPM has a 29 trillion dollar derivatives exposure: http://cnniw.yellowbrix.com/pages/cn...ry_id=28262615 |

| | My sister is a Chase survivor.
She survived when Chase and Manufacturer's Hanover merged.
She survived when Chase and Chemical merged.
She survived when Chase and JP Morgan merged.
"How the heck does she do it?" we've thought, as we've dragged our sorry selves to such remote outposts of civilization as South Dakota and Arkansas.
I don't know whether she'll survive this, but she is definitely vested in her pension, and since they have a "real" pension, the government would have to insure its payment if Chase couldn't. |

| | “Enron Plantiffs Seen Set to Sue Big Investment Banks” Quote:
Frustrated at the dwindling resources of Enron and its former auditor Andersen, plaintiffs' lawyers were on the verge of making claims to the deep pockets of merchant banks by alleging they actively helped Enron to deceive investors, legal sources said.
If it can be proved in court that giants such as J.P. Morgan Chase (NYSE:JPM - news), Credit Suisse First Boston (CSGZn.VX) and others were in cahoots with Enron, plaintiffs' lawyers stand to win settlements big enough to rock the industry, lawyers said.
"The potential claims dwarf even the enormous resources of the investment banks," said Chris Bebel, a partner at the Houston securities law firm of Shepherd Smith & Bebel.

| | Honestly, Erik, I know virtually nothing about Big Business or investment houses or anything....but my mind keeps going back to the story arc on The Sopranos where the mob was running a stock fraud scheme.
I don't see a great leap between what Tony's gang was doing and whatever was going on with Enron. I wouldn't even be shocked to find out a few kneecaps were broken, either.
How deep does this all go? How deep did Watergate go?
I think this is the Watergate of this generation. Disclaimer: I don't mean politically, as in deep into the White House.
