The light at the end of the tunnel for people seeking tech jobs?

NYT article on the subject.

http://www.nytimes.com/2002/03/17/bu...odaysheadlines

Makes me feel better, though I need the job now, not when the market stablizes. And I'm still adding to my knowledge. Hopefully to be put to use in the near future.

That's one thing about my place of employment. In training we discovered that half of us were out of work in tech fields looking for a place with a steady income until that elusive job could be found. Kinda made us all feel better. Knowing that the fact we were unemployed in our field wasn't personal. NO ONE could find a job in that field.

Things should be looking up now.

Hopefully.

Unfortunately people have been saying this for 6 months or more. It seems like wishful thinking to me. If anything things seem to be getting worse here if anything. Certainly not better. And Boston is usually among the last to feel the pain seriously and the first to begin recovering because of the sheer number of tech companies here (close second to Silicon Valley).

I actually read an article this morning on how hard Silicon Valley was hit and how they persist in utter optimism that it's getting better. You can find it here.

Doesn't matter.

With Continental, Enron, and now Compaq in the mass layoffs parade, Houston is an absolute mess. I feel like I'm boxing blindfolded and with both arms behind my back with these want ads.

Hopefully a few companies will realize that with the huge vacancy rates downtown, it may pay to abandon high-dollar NYC real estate and come down here in the future.
