Polycarbonate's properties makes bottles hip - and scarce


I found the history of these bottles interesting. The material was orginally used in the labs, but now it is used to make kids' accessories. The material is a big hit with the outdoor crowd too.

"There was a large spike in demand starting last winter," said Margaret Gregory, business manager for the outdoor division. "We've made large capital investments in new machinery."

The factory added extra shifts on weekends and runs 24 hours a day.

It's nice to see a business that is doing well.

The lids of Nalgene bottles do not survive encounters with the heating coil of a dishwasher, but other than that, they're pretty much indestructible.

I just happen to have a few 1.5 litre sized ones if the price is right.
