| | I know car dealerships must be hurting for sales as 0% financing is all over the commercials. But I just heard something that I never thought I'd hear. If you buy a new car at one dealership in Columbus (I love internet radio), you can get a dealer-selected used car for one dollar!
Good grief.

| | Beware.
I bought my Saturn for one dollar.
Of course, I bought the Saturn-logo mug that went with it for $7999. |

| | LOL, I can just imagine the "quality" of that used car. You pay them $1 and they avoid towing charges for cars that would probably last long enough for the drive home.

| | There is a dealership here that is advertising "Buy one, get one free". I'm imagining they've jacked up the price of car #1 to sufficiently cover the cost of car #2.

| | Having recently purchased a car, I can say - wait till your current car dies - car shopping stinks. I can also say - stick to smaller dealerships - the large one are more..... can't say the words here - it's a family site. |

| | I'm sure they're just writing off the trade-ins that have accumulated that they've been unable to sell. The space and keeping those old cars running is probably costing them more than giving away will.
Too funny.

who hates buying cars but has toyed with the idea in the last couple of weeks | Nothing new... back when I was in high school (1982-1986), the local BMW/Volkswagen dealership was advertising that if you bought a new BMW, they'd give you a Volkswagen Golf for free. I had some friends whose parents bought themselves BMWs and gave the kids the VW.
Right now we've got some dealership offering -0.1% loans on all new cars (heard this on the radio). That's right -- a negative loan. I'm not sure exactly what that means, what the fine print is, etc., etc., etc. but it is certainly interesting. |

| It’s the Amazon.com business model. Sell dollar bills for 98¢ and hope to make a profit at some point in the future by making it up on volume. |

| | I bought a car for a dollar once. It lasted over 4 years and survived 3 accidents without getting a scratch. I reviewed it, and the Epinion more than paid for the car

| | The dealerships are still making money. The dollar cars are probably ones they were going to wholesale off and not make much money on anyway - they made the money upfront when they took the car in as a trade. This way, they an push the sales of the new cars and get rid of the trades.
It doesnt mean the dollar cars are not any good - at least if it is a respectable dealer. It is just a make everyone happy kind of thing.
Even the 0% APR is making them money. They just wont drop the price of the car as much as they normally would, having you pay more initially than you could if the finance rate might be a little higher. They get their money one way or another. Sometimes they might add a finance fee - flat rate. It depends on the dealership.
