True story:
Back when I was in law school and an idiot, I sent out my resume to every law firm I could think of. Back home, I still have a thousand letters, all rejecting my application. One law firm in California sent me a postcard in the mail with a terse rejection notice.
I sent a lengthy fax (this was before e-mail) excoriating the poor associate who sent me the postcard for being rude. (This, apparently, got passed around the office, causing her some embarassment.) She wrote me back, a little disgustedly, and told me that the postcards were cheaper, and that she would keep on sending them.
I wrote her back. "What would you have done if I sent my resume on a postcard?"
They changed their policy.
