| | Extended Business Trip to Ireland | | I'm heading to Ireland to work in the Intel factory near Dublin for 6 weeks at the end of the year. Any hints on what I should do in my spare time on the weekends? Also, I will have two weeks vacation afterward and plan to visit Amsterdam and possibly parts of Ireland. Any suggestions?

Janine | Now why doesn't Epinions have a 'search by region' function for finding other users...:-)
Not that you would necessarily want to 'hook up' with them, but they would certainly be a font of information...:-)
...tom...
(And I know I have seen some Irish users recently...even some that seemed to be normal folks...:-)

| Since when is user convenience an issue with Epinions. Oh, yeah - it's not - that's why we can't search by reason. Heck, that's why we can't even search by user - not easily anyway.
No advice, but sounds great. I don't know, but Christmas in London seems to romantic and wonderful! |

| Oops - I meant region (but now that I think about it, "reason" works well, too. ) |

| | jnbmoore's husband traveled to Ireland quite a bit in his old job, and I know she went with him a number of times. Send her a PM.
I spent a wonderful summer in Ireland in a college program. There's great theater (Abbey Theater) and music. Dublin is a town with a lot of culture (and a lot of drinking, at least at that time.) I'd see if University College Dublin and Trinity College have websites, and see what's happening there. I'd also see if their newspaper had a website (and we're talking thirty years ago, so I've forgotten the name.)
County Wicklow, just south of Dublin, is breathtaking.
People are very friendly, and I'm sure they'll be happy to share their favorite pastimes with you. (Will it be too cold for golf?)
I fell in love with Ireland when there cost of living was less than half of ours. The shopping in Ireland and London was just wonderful. Being twenty, my suitcases were crammed full of new clothes when I returned.
I don't know if I'd love Ireland as much if the cost of living were much higher than ours. |

| | The Cliffs of Mohr are a must-see. They're really fantastic.
Waterford Crystal (in Waterford) has factory tours if you're into the glass-blowing process. I thought it was cool, but no free souvenir at the end.
I went to Blarney Castle and kissed the Blarney Stone (kind of fun, hanging upside down with a person holding on to your waist to get to it) but it's a long line to get to the stone at the top. I had more fun looking at the odd rock formations in the nearby garden. There's a set of steps that one has to walk up backwards, with eyes closed while making a wish. If you peek, your wish will not come true.
In Dublin, apart from the historical aspects, Temple Bar is pretty happening any night of the week. Some of the bars have live traditional Irish music and dancing on weekends which I really enjoyed (Temple Bar is a few blocks from Trinity College).
There's a couple of museums that were unique. One was all kinds of stuffed animals (taxidermy-type "stuffed"), but I don't remember the name of the museum. Trinity College has a huge library and the Book of Kells. There's also a very sexy statue of Molly Malone on a street corner some blocks from Trinity. I went to Dublin Castle which is now used for the Irish parliament. They do give tours. The jail was very interesting too, especially with the stories about Irish nationalism and the people who died for the cause.
I went to Slygo and Galway but frankly don't remember anything signficant from those places.
Have fun in Ireland and do make sure you get around the countryside--it's just gorgeous!
