And if I quit now, I can always reapply for the job when my coauditor quits in March, so there's really no risk if I don't like the job.

And we've got a deskclerk who's been making noises about being interested in working the audit, so it wouldn't even be like I was leaving them in the lurch...

I'll even be nice and make sure I tell my boss I'm putting in an application.

And, as I said, if it doesn't work out, I've GOT a safety net.

Of course, the problem is that my resume is SO hotel oriented...

If you want to be nice, tell your boss after the interview, IF you think you're going to get the job and/or IF you think your boss is going to give you MONDO incentives to stay. If answering this ad doesn't lead to an interview but your boss thinks you have a foot out the door, you could be setting yourself up for icky stuff.

In any other situation than the one that I'm in, I would agree with you. But I have a new boss right now, and he's already feeling beleaguered. I'm about the only person on the desk that's giving him complete and unconditional support.

This is a chance sighting on my part, not a sign that I'm scouring the ads to find a better place to work.

It has been pointed out to me that when the manager said "low twenties" for starting pay, it would be yearly, not hourly.

Ah well, it was a nice little dream while it lasted.

Actually, I'm quite releaved!!! I was thinking that if this is an $8 increase/hour, than you are being used for slave labor, and that would have made me sad.

Just on the off chance that the desk clerks to whom you refer purport to "help" people at hotel registration desks, you can beat one for me. The last encounters I had with clerks made me want to cast them in a reality movie based on the sci-fi story, To Serve Man. The irony would be delicious.
