This is a very prestigious fellowship. I'll be doing it a Stanford Law School. It is a prelude to full time teaching at a law school. |

Will being a professor of law also allow you to spend a little more time with your wife and brand new baby boy than working in a big law firm would?
If so, double congratulations |

My cousin is a law professor... former Dean. I think he's at an Ivy this year, but can't remember where. |

If so, double congratulations | Yes, more time than a big firm, but not more time than my small firm. Plus, I have to moonlight at my current firm to pay the bills until I make the permanent switch. |

| | Re What I'll be doing next year... | | Michael, I know we only met the one time, but I feel I know you after hanging out with you here for six years. That is an extraordinary honor. Congratulations to you on very high praise.
Two questions -- what do you plan to do during the year and what do you think put you over the top for what I'm sure is a fierce competition? |

Two good questions:
1. There are two goals for the fellowship - write good quality work and meet as many profesors as possible. The primary purpose of the fellowship is to improve the chances of my getting hired - annually there are 1200-1300 applicants for 150 teaching spots.
2. It certainly didn't hurt that I graduated high honors from Chicago, and that my latest article is very good. What put me over the top is probably that I am in IP, and that is a hot area right now for teaching. |

| | Re What I'll be doing next year... | | You're brutally honest, I'll give you that. I remember an IP attorney (outside) at a company I worked at telling us that even the IP attorneys didn't know IP because the courts didn't understand it. |
