Florida Supermarkets

There is so little competition in S. Florida when it comes to Supermarkets. Publix owns this market and is clearly the best. Winn-Dixie is floundering. Sedano's does will with the Hispanic market, but I can't stand the place. Albertson's is hardly around anymore. Just heard that Foodtown will be opening a few stores here in the Fall.

I'm thrilled - we need some market competition. The two first stores aren't near me, and I won't shop there, but I grew up with Foodtowns in NJ and they were a good company - my mom worked for Corporate for several years.

We'll still be shopping at Publix - they're the only market near us that has good produce and they are building one very very close to us, but competition will be a good thing.

Sorry to hear that!

I know that the Montgomery division picked up some FL stores in a recent shuffle, but I doubt they'd be down your way, or I'd ask for more details and see if DH could pass along the complaints.

We're down in Broward County - I doubt that would be in that division. The store is fairly new and is clean. I have two complaints - the quality of the produce is horrible. Publix fruits and veggies are MUCH more fresh, and they have a better selection. There are times I've gone to Winn Dixie and they don't have an eggplant, or there are 3 cauliflowers and they are both brown. My second complaint is with the store personel. In Publix the cashiers always say hello and are polite. If you ask where something is, the stockers know and will tell you or, more often, show you. At our WD, the cashiers are usually young kids that are chatting with each other, don't greet the guests, make mistakes, etc - and I've asked what aisle to look for something in and have been told "don't know". Well, find out!

We used to have Food Towns here in Michigan but they all closed I liked them because they were not HUGE stores that take a couple of hours to navigate. Lucky you!
