Once, when I was 17, my cousin called me on the phone and asked me to join her at some meeting. She was very secrative and wouldn't tell me what it was about. So I agree to go and meet her at this plush office in an upscale suburb. Everyone was ushered into this room where the lights were dimmed and we were treated to a series of videos and demonstrations.
Torches were made out of lighters with Binaca breath spray, light bulbs were lit with some mineral drops, and tap water was turned disgusting colors with pool testers. We were then propositioned on the opportunity to make thousands or millions of dollars. All we had to do was sell their quality products and recruit friends to do the same.
That's not all! If we purchased or sold $5,000 worth of products, we would be promoted manager status where we would earn more money from our downline. It really didn't interest me -- it seemed like an Amway thing. But I was amused by all the people milling around in business suits trying to act important. After much hounding from my cousin, I gave it a shot. I gave up after a couple months.
The owner of Equinox, Bill Gouldd, was one slick SOB! Imagine my joy when I discovered that the FCC brought suits and charges against him and ordered Equinox to be shut down in many states. It's too little too late, because so many people lost not only thousands of dollars, but their lives, too. Some are so badly in debt that their hiding from not only creditors, but friends & family as well.
Anyway, doing a search on the internet brought up something interesting. The co-founder, Sheri Sharman, has started a similar and apparently more shady-looking scam. Beware...
