Selling Through Amazon

I have to say, I have sold more books by listing them on the Amazon seller's pages.

But, I have to stop selling there because their fees are flipping crazy.

Book, basically 3- 6 give or take. They take a .99 transaction fee the credit you roughly 3.49 for s/h that they collect from the buyer, but charge you 1.23 for this "service" and then they do 6 - 15 % of the sale.

I just had a book sell for $3.50. They charged the customer 6.99 I received $4.24.

It cost me $3.23 to mail the book...net only $1.01.

Anyone know of any other alternatives to selling books (paperback, not collector items or anything, but popular books that people love reading, just hate to spend $8.00 plus to buy them new in the store.)

Thanks!

Used book stores or garage sales.

Re Selling Through Amazon

Honestly? I usually don't bother buying used books online unless it's out of print. By the time you pay shipping, it's not worth the savings.

Amazon has free shipping for what? $25 and over? It ends up being cheaper to buy it new. I just Bookcross all my old books.

Re Selling Through Amazon

I had some luck for a while selling through Half.com, but then that pretty much dried up for me. Their fees weren't quite as bad.

I have items listed there, but honestly, I cannot recall selling more than 1 or 2 books over there.

I review people's prices to ensure that I am not exceeding theirs. I just don't know what's going on with these items.

The half price book store we have here, you can sell them paperbacks, but normally, for a $7.99 book, we are lucky if they give us a .10 piece and that just stinks.

Thanks for the input gang. I appreciate it.

Re Selling Through Amazon

I review the occasional book for bookreporter.com (for Eps if I'm really hard up), and I usually sell them on Amazon pretty promptly. I don't really care about the fees because they're new books and I can sell them for top dollar, especially if I get hardback copies. (You sometimes get paperback preview copies of new hardback books.)

But I wouldn't waste my time selling seriously used books (especially trade paperbacks) on the Internet.
