I wonder if this will effect the iPhone sales.

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | But that's where the skill will come in handy. People won't by iPhones and try to hack them themselves, they'll buy iPhones from geeks who hack them, and as more geeks figure it out, more iPhones will come available so the price will go down.

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | Just how big was the check AT&T scratched out to Apple? Because tying the iPhone to one network - especially a network with the horrible reputation of AT&T - had to have cost them billions in sales from people who want to use other carriers. I've scratched my head, and I can't figure out one reason why Apple did this.

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | I thought so too. Isn't Verizon the only company that works all across the US consistantly? It seems stupid that they didn't use Verizon.
I think the next generation of iphones will work out the bugs, and I'm hopeful they will be compatible with other networks.
I remember when Ipod is new and a few on this board bought Macs or wanted Macs (I don't remember now) so they could have Ipods. It didn't take too long to become available for PCs. I'm hopeful that they will expand networks in the future too. |

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | From my understanding AT&T forked over a percentage of all the revenue generated by services of iPhone customers as well as gave Apple ALL the money from the phone sales.

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | I gotta say... we have Cingular/AT&T and it's the only network we have had reliability with here. Sprint & Verizon both have huge dead spots, and T-Mobile was about the worst network we've ever had.
Cell phone service is a crap shoot depending on where you live. |

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | Ain't that the truth. I want to hurl my phone at the tv when AT&T ads come on touting that they have the lowest number of dropped calls - my calls are dropped constantly with them, and TMobile never gave me a problem!

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | Tmobile used to only work in Waterbury and in New Haven for me. Since I lived far from both cities, I was so happy when that contract was up!
With Verizon the only dead spots I find in my travels are near an airport and near all public water shed areas. It doesn't make sense to me, but, the public water shed areas are consistant. |

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | Around here, Verizon has better cellular coverage, but their customer service is nearly as bad as T-mobile. In fact, it's SO bad that we needed Joan's services to get my middle son out from under their collective thumbs.
ATT's customer service is much better than Verizon's. I called last week and got a live person by the second ring. Not only that, she was able to fix everything I needed fixed - and more than I expected. She was polite and knew her stuff. I never had that kind of experience with Verizon.
Customer service is probably one reason Apple decided to go with ATT over Verizon.

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | See--I had buckets of trouble with Cingular, not to mention NO reception. We switched to Verizon, and all is well. We can use our phones just about anywhere. We had ATT in the beginning before they became Cingular, and we were happy. But the two years we were with Cingular were hell.
It all depends on the area, and the people in the customer service centers.

Around here, Verizon has better cellular coverage, but their customer service is nearly as bad as T-mobile. | Funny. Delia and I just switched to T-Mobile and we've had great experiences with their customer service so far. Very fast to get through and the people knew what they were doing. The MyFaves plan is far and away the best bargain for us, too.
BTW - I wound up with the Nokia 5300 and love it. If anyone is looking for a phone with an MP3 player (with 1GB memory card included) and excellent call quality, I think this one should be on your list.
Delia did get a Razr. She's not as excited. She prefers the way the Nokia fits her hand and the Razr's display is harder to read in direct sunlight than the Nokia. Also, what is up with Razr car chargers? The cheapest I've seen them anywhere is $20.
When I get a little money I think I'm going to find a 5300 for her.

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | Brian,
It's been about 2.5 years since I had T-mobile. Maybe they listened. When I canceled my service, I told them that the 25 minutes I'd spent on hold waiting to cancel was the shortest wait time I'd ever had for a customer service call and that the primary reason I was canceling was their sucky customer service. The fact that the phone didn't work at my house wasn't really relevant. The ONLY cell phone that has ever worked consistently here was a Verizon analog phone. Even their digital phones don't work here.

| | Re I Was Bad, and I'm Not Sorry | | What is this car charger of which you speak? We long ago figured out that one of the adapters from Radio Shack was the way to go... sits in the car and now it doesn't matter WHAT we need to charge... it works. I've been known to charge Lappy between appointments. | |
