I need a new way to host files | | Okay, this may seem a little convoluted, but remember I'm not a techie:
I have my blog, NotebookLearning, with a custom name through Google. $10/year and I don't have to fool with the techie side of domain name service.
I've been hosting files that my readers download at Geocities, just using a subdomain there, and paying $4.95/month for enough basic storage space and bandwidth. I don't care about it being a subdomain name because when I link to the pages on my blog, they just automatically pop up in Word or Adobe when someone clicks the link, the reader never sees Geocities or any pages there. They can then either look at the page and decide they don't want it, or save it. They don't have to actually download the page first. I like the way this works for my readers.
Geocities is about to go up to $6.95/month. I'd like to continue basically like I'm doing already, but don't want to pay that much. I don't like the free file hosting services because a) that's an extra step that I don't want my readers to have to do and b) a lot of them have ads and I have no control over those ads - and sometimes (considering the usual demographics of the folks who use these services) the ads are Not Nice in the eyes of my particular readers.
I'd prefer an online uploading interface like Geocities', rather than having to fool with FTP, as well, but I can deal with FTP if I have to. Any recommendations on a good place to host my files?
