No Talent Miss America

Miss America no longer needs to be talented live, on stage.

I haven't watched a pagent since I've been an adult on my own. (My mother watched them - since she has never been one to put a huge price on pagentry! - so it was that or nothing when I was a kid.) One girl sticks out in my memory...she was very pretty, but her "talent" was leaping about on stage with a baton. She wasn't a baton twirler, not really a dancer, just had to do something. I don't recall that she won.

Quote:
Most typical were the baton twirlers, opera singers and piano players. But through the years, contestants have ridden horses on stage, stomped on broken glass, jumped on trampolines or driven tractors.
Driven tractors? Well, it's a skill that I can't profess to. (Although I have driven one once in my lifetime and hubby wishes I would learn to so I could help him NWIH ) But a talent????

Lynn

Re: No Talent Miss America

When you've got it, you've got it. Maybe she was really good at maneuvering that huge thing. ?? Anyway, I'd rather be tumbling about on a cushioned mat.

Re: No Talent Miss America

I think it's a shame that the Miss America Pageant is lessening the value of talent scores. I always thought the talent portion, and the fact that it counted for 40%, made this pageant more legitimate than others.

Re: No Talent Miss America

The last really talented contestant I can recall was Vanessa Williams.
