you know, there is something very, very wrong with this whole case. The fact that one of the suspects is the son of a judge is making me wonder what the police in that country are actually doing.

I wondered the same thing, but they flew in a judge from Curacao to preside over the case.

I wonder too, if there weren't so much publicity if this whole thing wouldn't have just been swept under the rug by the Aruban officals.

I actually think the opposite; they don't HAVE a lot of crime there, so how much experience do the police and the officials HAVE with this sort of situation?

Apparently more than the police in St. Thomas, who've arrested no one in Hubby's godson's murder.

Since you told us about what happened, MJ, I have been wondering why we haven't heard anything about it on the news. A young American (two young Americans) are shot and killed in St. Thomas, and we hear nothing. Has the story been on the news in New York?

I will continue to pray for the entire family, and that the police are able to find and convict whoever did this.

NY papers (Newsday, Post, Daily News, not NYTimes) have covered, along with the local CBS station (interview w/hubby still on line there I think). Google Tristan Charlier and you'll find stuff. Nothing like the coverage for Natalie - but of course, they were found (dead, but found) while she was/is missing. Oh, and the news coverage felt the need to report that despite them being two young black men from NYC, they had no criminal records.

Here's hoping they can get something out of him - sometimes it's a LOT tougher to get the truth out of a kid or teenager, but adults know the score and may cooperate. OTOH, if he's protecting his son he may prove to be an even harder nut to crack.

You know, I saw the mother/wife on the news the other morning and she did NOT come off well. Sort of a "how dare they... do they know who we are?" vibe.

Yup - I thought that too, but if she really thinks that they took him without any evidence, then she would be indignant.

Yeah, but it wasn't a "how dare they when he did nothing" but more a "my husband is a JUDGE and I don't even get to spend time with my SON."

In order to hold them, they HAD to have proven to a judge there that there was a reason to hold them. She of all people should know that. Not guilty by reason of wealth and position doesn't fly with me.

I agree. I'm curious to hear the rest of the story. I'm guessing the son did something and daddy is covering it up and trying to make it go away. If Martha could go to jail about lying about investments, the Judge can get....what? for lying about possible murder.
This will be a lifetime movie soon.

The mere fact that they lied about bringing her back to the hotel is suspicious in itself. Mommy didn't wonder WHY he'd lie about something like that?

Arresting that guy from the party boat is what's got my radar up? Party BOAT? I wonder if they think that either she got transported somewhere (that white slavery rumor) or if she's resting in Davy Jones' locker now.

I'll admit it. I was completely wrong about this case disappearing from the headlines. It's become the 'who-done-it' of the summer ala Chandra Levy and Laci Peterson.

I wonder why the disappearance of those two children in Idaho hasn't kept the public attention? They were taken from a house after their mother and a brother were killed.

I've wondered about them from time to time, too. And now there are 3 kids missing from, I think, New York. They were outside playing, one minute they were there, the next they were gone, poof. It's on CNN.com.

I remember reading an article a few years ago about missing persons cases and other crime situations - comes down to if the family has the money and connections and other resources and ability to get the story out in the public awareness and keep it there. The ones who can effectively market their stories to the press and spoon-feed it to them are the ones whose stories get aired, especially if they've got a good "hook."

Melanie, I saw that one (actually Camden, NJ) and was sick... I am way too paranoid to leave the kids out for even a second. Remember when we used to be able to go play anywhere on our streets and be safe?

The three children from Camden, NJ were just found dead - suffocated in a van. Terrible.
