Awwwww....

Hurricane News Scares 8-Year-Old Fla. Girl Into Trying To Ride Bike To Ohio - Local News Story - WKMG Orlando

Okay, she's only 8, so she doesn't *really* deserve to be stuck in the "stupid" thread, but I didn't feel like making a new one.

An un-named crafter in Florida is reported to have self-inflicted severe abdominal bruising by using her own body as leverage to push a crochet hook through fabric she was working on. The injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. Names have been withheld to protect the stupid.
Sometimes those most dedicated to their craft are known to sacrifice life and limb for the good of all.

I don't consider that stupid.

I know that I'm going to hell, but am I the ONLY one whose first thought was "Gee, that kid is smarter than the parents! They are the ones who moved there and she's trying to get the hell OUT!"

Nope, didn't think that at all. It was freezing here yesterday and I was sitting on the shore at a lake thinking 'hurricane schmurricane'.

You know how so many stories in this thread involve swords? Well, here's a first, which involves a rocket launcher. Yep, that's right - a Florida man had a surface-to-air missile launcher.

Re We need a sub-forum: Stupid Stories about Stupid People in Florida

I can.
In public places we're sort of trained to NOT see people. I remember one time when I was very young, I was with my dad at the train station. There was a man lying on the platform, and everyone was just walking passed him. My dad wanted to make sure he was ok. I thought he was drunk and was afraid of him and told my dad we should go. As we got to the stairs, the paramedics were coming up. I don't know if he was a drunk or some commuter who passed out in the station. It was decades ago, and I'm still embarrassed and horrified at my lack of compassion towards a stranger. I can see that no other passangers said anything. I can't see how the people who worked there didn't notice, but I'm not sure where he was waiting.
Sadly, I don't think this is a stupid Florida story (and at least half the people walking through the busy airport were tourists and NOT stupid Floridians). I think its a sad statement about our society story.
I hope I learned from that incident so many years ago.

Re We need a sub-forum: Stupid Stories about Stupid People in Florida

Wormie, I can understand your point except for one issue... this was an AIRPORT.

I'm supposed to believe that they are so concerned about security that I can't take my toothpaste on a plane or take my coffee cup past the security gate, but someone can be in the same location for three days and NO ONE from the oh-so-tight security noticed him until a missing person report was filed???

My grandfather tried to teach me to parallel park that way. Only, you know, I wasn't drunk. Nor in Florida. Although he lived there half the year til Bamma died, they full time.

Not a "stupid" story, per se, but definitely bizarre. Cindy, horses aren't the only things that eat weird stuff!
