An un-named crafter in Florida is reported to have self-inflicted severe abdominal bruising by using her own body as leverage to push a crochet hook through fabric she was working on. The injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. Names have been withheld to protect the stupid. | Sometimes those most dedicated to their craft are known to sacrifice life and limb for the good of all.
I don't consider that stupid.

| | Re We need a sub-forum: Stupid Stories about Stupid People in Florida | | You know how so many stories in this thread involve swords? Well, here's a first, which involves a rocket launcher. Yep, that's right - a Florida man had a surface-to-air missile launcher. |

| | Re We need a sub-forum: Stupid Stories about Stupid People in Florida | | I can.
In public places we're sort of trained to NOT see people. I remember one time when I was very young, I was with my dad at the train station. There was a man lying on the platform, and everyone was just walking passed him. My dad wanted to make sure he was ok. I thought he was drunk and was afraid of him and told my dad we should go. As we got to the stairs, the paramedics were coming up. I don't know if he was a drunk or some commuter who passed out in the station. It was decades ago, and I'm still embarrassed and horrified at my lack of compassion towards a stranger. I can see that no other passangers said anything. I can't see how the people who worked there didn't notice, but I'm not sure where he was waiting.
Sadly, I don't think this is a stupid Florida story (and at least half the people walking through the busy airport were tourists and NOT stupid Floridians). I think its a sad statement about our society story.
I hope I learned from that incident so many years ago. |

| | Re We need a sub-forum: Stupid Stories about Stupid People in Florida | | Wormie, I can understand your point except for one issue... this was an AIRPORT.
I'm supposed to believe that they are so concerned about security that I can't take my toothpaste on a plane or take my coffee cup past the security gate, but someone can be in the same location for three days and NO ONE from the oh-so-tight security noticed him until a missing person report was filed??? |
