What is it with teachers in Florida? Did anyone see the comments of that principal at Ponce de Leon High School who doesn't want to allow a Gay-Straight Alliance? I'll see if I can find a link, but his testimony in court was hysterical. Found it: Quote: |
During the trial, which was held in Panama City yesterday and today, Ponce de Leon High School’s principal David Davis admitted under oath that he had banned students from wearing any clothing or symbols supporting equal rights for gay people. Davis also testified that he believed rainbows were “sexually suggestive” and would make students unable to study because they’d be picturing gay sex acts in their mind. The principal went on to admit that while censoring rainbows and gay pride messages he allowed students to wear other symbols many find controversial, such as the Confederate flag.

Teachers are not subject to child abuse laws, if that's what you mean. If a teacher does something to a student, it's a civil or criminal matter handled outside of child welfare/CPS, like if the teacher physically assaults the student the teacher's arrested same as if he/she was in a bar fight with another adult. Which means in turn that it generally has to be physical abuse of some sort to get the police's attention - being mean to kids isn't a crime (and luckily for me, since I'm not fond if small children!). The parents can always sue for emotional damage though.

Woman accused of smacking beau with toilet seat
Reading the title I just knew this had to be Flori-duh.
But after reading the story Quote: The woman, 18, told police that she found her boyfriend smoking cocaine in their bathroom and turned on the shower to try and wash away the drugs.
The pair argued and when he refused to give up the drugs, authorities say the woman hit him with the toilet seat.

I was listening to NPR All Things Considered yesterday on the drive home and heard this interview with Jack Dolan of the Miami Hearald, and laughed and thought of this thread when he said: Quote: | Jack Dolan said
