| | Re I'd Like To Second the Motion... | | I'm reading this having just come from two blocks over, where three different houses tried to outdo each other with their individual fireworks shows. (They launch the fireworks over a canal, at least)

| | Re I'd Like To Second the Motion... | | My mother hurt her foot and I told her she better get to the ER before all the weirdos who blow themselves up for the holiday get there. She thought I was crazy.
BTW, her foot isn't broken, thankfully.

| | Re I'd Like To Second the Motion... | | Between my house and work we passed four different groups of idiots with fireworks. We started classifying them. Idiots lighting fireworks on wooden porches. Idiots lighting fireworks near small children. Idiots letting small children light fireworks AND JUMP THROUGH THEM...

| | Re I'd Like To Second the Motion... | | My community always has illegal fireworks at the community beach. You'd think they wouldn't, given their paranoia about being sued, but they do.
We went last year - for about 15 minutes. The idiots made me so anxious with their attempts to blow each other and themselves up that I had to leave. I can't wait to hear stupid fireworks stories from my middle son, who is working security at the local hospital tonight. Apparently last night was quiet. He's not so hopeful about tonight.

| | Re I'd Like To Second the Motion... | | Tons of fireworks in our neighborhood last night, but I couldn't directly see anyone from our yard. A cursory check of the local NBC affiliate's website doesn't reveal any injuries, but that probably just means nothing serious enough to make the news.
It especially worried me this year, as we are in drought conditions and extremely dry all over. We've been under a trash burn ban for over a month now, and will be until October. I could just see the trees or someone's yard going up in flames last night, cause some of those suckers were big fireworks.
Told DH I bet the cops could make a lot of money for the city on the 4th and New Year's if they'd just cruise the neighborhoods in unmarked cars, and write tickets left and right.

| | Re I'd Like To Second the Motion... | | The things are legal down here. You can buy them in the supermarket, at Wal-Mart, or at stands all around (like the Christmas tree lots!).
I hate going out because I don't truse people. Some seemed like they were going off awfully close to the house. Up north they weren't legal. |

The accident happened about 15 minutes into the city's annual fireworks display, which continued without interruption.
| Well, I should hope so. Why let the screams of agony from the 6 or 7 burned spectators cast a pall on the festivities? |

| | Re I'd Like To Second the Motion... | | Fireworks are legal in the outlying, more rural towns, so they're super easy to get around here. 15 minutes or less down the road and you can have as many as you want. So fighting them in town here is pretty hard.
