Gibson Apologizes for 'Despicable' Statements

"The deputy who made the arrest came in with an eight-page report," said TMZ.com managing editor Harvey Levin. "And ultimately his superiors looked at it and said … 'You've got to rewrite this report. It's too inflammatory. There's a lot of tension now with the Israelis, and Mel Gibson did "Passion of the Christ," and we don't want to inflame the Jews around here over a drunk driving arrest.' So they ordered him to rewrite the report, taking out all of this incendiary information that the officer had written down."

I'd love to see that original report. And if Gibson is apologizing for his "desipicable statements", I'm guessing there is some truth to the story.

I saw the first report. The whole,"Jews are responsible for all the wars...are you a Jew?".

Yeah. The whining which followed, though, si what really turned my stomach. Ever notice how a**holes are never remorseful until they get caught- and then it's the alcohol talking? Can you tell that I am still not a Mel Gibson fan?

The thing is, when was the last time you said soemthing that you didn't believe, after you'd had a few? Like, never,maybe? It doesn't come out if it isn't in there foating around somewhere. I'm guilty of double standard here. Seems Mel's an a-hole when drunk (I thought he'd gone on the wagon???) and I still think he's sexy and hot. But Angenlina's a psycho and I think she's Not Attractive.

The L. A. Times has several articles (one in the Business section) this morning over whether Mel's remarks and conduct will hurt his career.

But as the article mentioned, in an amoral business that gave an Academy Award to a child molester, probably not.

Interesting take this a.m. that when someone's career is on the downswing, they do stupid things to jumpstart it.

And I've rethought my ideals on Mel. He's dropped off my list. Too bad someone so talented and attractive can be so ugly underneath. I'm with Wormie, I won't be taking in any more Mel flicks.

My favorite actor has a bulbous nose and puffy eyes. He's not classically handsome but he can act the heck out of everyone else in Hollywood. And I think he's too smart to get himself into a mess like this. The last time he was in the news it was because he was going to lots of ballgames with his friend Ron Howard. Wholesome, All-American....

America seems to lack the self-discipline to boycott celebrities who are criminals or who lack decency. Look at rappers, Mike Tyson, Allan Iverson and others. By all rights, these people's career's should have been OVER, but they aren't. Tyson lost a bit, but he's certainly not hurting for fans.
