| | I know there's already a thread about this, but for some reason the site won't let me search.
Anyways... Australia's Chinese-made Toy of the Year contains 'date rape' drug
Yikes.

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | That's what I was thinking, that they sound just like AquaDots. But: Quote: |
A statement from the New South Wales Fair Trading Department said the product was supposed to used a nontoxic compound used in glue, but contained the harmful chemical instead.
| So it's a case of the correct component being replaced with something else.
And I hope it's a totally different company. I've thought of trying the AquaDots, but this now makes me leery.

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | Gulp - NOT a different company. And two U.S. children have gone into comas from them: Millions of toys found to contain 'date rape' drug - Nov. 7, 2007
You know, I usually buy books for my nieces and nephew for the holiday, and I think that's an ESPECIALLY good idea this year!

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | Yes, all over the news tonite, it's the AquaDots. I had actually thought about getting this for the girls this Christmas, so I'm glad I didn't go shopping yet!!!
My mom has the right idea...she is refusing to buy ANYTHING for the kids and is making (incredible I might add) toys. I think she's on to something.

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | Phew. The kids have been BEGGING for them. I have a Target gift card in my wallet that belongs to one of the kids and we almost bought them and then someone had a tantrum.
I told them I don't like buying things when I don't know how they work. I'm glad I didn't cave. l need to pay attention to my gut more.
My kids are getting a lot of board games for Xmas. I tossed a LOT of them because they were spread all over teh house and I was tired of trying to find all the pieces again so they could play. |

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | OMG! I can't believe that. I was going to buy those today! I am just so shaky right now- how awful! #4 has been just begging for those, he wanted to make stuff...anyway, Helen and I are off to go shopping for loot for the guys to do while I'm in Nashville- and this is what I was going to buy!
Ok- now can I ask why we're still buying shit from China? Somehow I don't see this as a terrible Republican plot to demonize China. |

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | I do not understand a 10 year old girl swallowing these beads. A toddler yes, I understand. But older children? I guess my kids really are different. A plastic bean up the nose on my 3-year old is the worst we've had.
I hope they fix the beads and bring the product out again. My daughter wants them.

I hope they fix the beads and bring the product out again. My daughter wants them. | Because they can. And they can read. And they can read that it's non-toxic. And they're pretty. And you just wonder what they taste like.
Either that, or, you play with the crap, you don't wash your hands, and you put them in your mouth. Sounds feasible to me. |

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | Perler Beads are still non-toxic and a lot fun.

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | What are Perler beads?
And these things... my sister's kids played with them. And they get EVERYWHERE. I am a "mouth holder" type of person so I could totally see holding them between dry lips while I'm trying to make a design. I've actually left the house still holding a baby hair clip in my mouth. |

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | Perler beads are those little "beads" that look like sections of tubing, in colors. You put them on the little shaped plates that are covered in little spikes (the spikes hold the beads in place while you design) then when you're finished, you use a special piece of paper and an iron to melt the bead tops together.
They go EVERYWHERE and different colors have different melt rates, they're a mess. Stay far away from them with your kids, Pip!

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | Bahahahaha! You are SO FUNNY. We had those. And the kids dumped them all over the place. One of the most satisfying five minute intervals in my life was hearing the "thwick-thwick-thwick" and watching them swirl around with cyclonic action in my Dyson. |

| | Re More Chinese toy recalls | | We love them here. And I feel no guilt sucking them up in the vacuum.
