| | Starbucks to Close Feb 26!!!! | | OH NO!
Don't worry, it's only for three hours. And when they get done, you'll be able to get a perfect latte.
Think it's a good idea or no? Great publicity stunt, I think.

| | Re Starbucks to Close Feb 26!!!! | | Definately a publicity stunt. We had store meetings and retrainings when I worked retail, but we had to come in at ungodly early hours, or we had to take turns watching videos in the back, or we had "read and sign" memos in the back office. Never would they close a store for it. In fact, I'll bet you some Starbucks won't be able to close at that time because it would violate their lease and they would be fined, esp. if they are in a mall. |

| | Re Starbucks to Close Feb 26!!!! | | That's interesting...
After opening the new Super T this past fall, I have a new understanding for Starbucks, since we had one in the store. The managers go through 80 hours of training and each team member had to go through 40 hours. It was actually quite intensive. We had to send a certain number of people through the manager's training so that they were certified to train new people later on.
It scares me a bit if a Starbucks in a Super T goes through all of that training and people in a stand alone aren't. If they are, why the heck can't they do the work the right way?? |

| | Re Starbucks to Close Feb 26!!!! | | What's really scary - because of turnover and the need to cover shifts, child care workers in residential settings can end up working shifts with young people in their care with 0 hours of training before their first shift. So the guy who rings up your latte probably had more training before he started taking care of customers than child care workers have before starting work in a group home of troubled foster care residents.

The latte guy probably had way more training than most new parents, too.

| | Re Starbucks to Close Feb 26!!!! | | The local guy is smart: Stew Leonard's targets Starbucks - NewsTimes.com Quote:
Grocery chain president Stew Leonard Jr. said Starbucks' three-hour shutdown is the perfect opportunity for his stores to show off who makes the best cup of coffee.
"We feel our cappuccino is better than Starbucks'," Leonard said. "We're saying, 'Come on in. I think you'll like it.'"
| For anyone who is unfamiliar with Stew's, they really go far to give you customer service, even though the owner has been accused (convicted maybe too... I don't remember) of tax evasion, and of "fixing the scales." People still come back because of the good food and good service. They also have the most annoying layout for a grocery store I've ever seen, it's designed to herd you through aisles like a maze. It makes it difficult to get around the store without walking by everything they have to offer. |
