NY Governor Spitzer connected to prostitution ring

May have been client of high-class prostitution service that involved flying the call girls across state lines (can we say Mann Act?) to their clients.

Here we're waiting for the press conference and the news is abuzz with potential implications to the state and to the presidential race, since Spitzer's actions (e.g. driver licenses for immigrants) affected Hillary's campaign already.

Spitzer ran as Mr. Law-And-Order, and here it seems he may even have to resign - he's had a hugely contentious relationship with the state senate and it's unlikely that he will be able to recover from this.

Didn't resign. Didn't admit anything. But G and I have had an entertaining IM exchange about what I'd be doing it I was his wife.

I heard Greta Van Susteran read from the complaint. The prostitute said on the wiretap that Spitzer wanted activity that 'wasn't safe'. The internet will buzz with speculation about what that means.

The case started with a fiscal probe into suspicious bank activity.

Funny - the story developed like it was a prostitution bust that snared a governor, but it was really the other way around -- Spitzer's own fiscal activites made the banks alert the IRS, who with the FBI then discovered the prostitution ring.

His timing certainly wasn't safe. After his hooker scandal, David Vitter got a standing ovation from the Senate Republican caucus. The national governor's conference was a few weeks ago, so Spitzer has to wait almost a year for his applause.

When one makes the power structure angry with you, one has to expect that they will pull out all their institutional weapons looking for dirt and you had better be cleaner than clean. I think we're watching another example of hubris and Greek Tragedy at work.

I dunno. I find it hard to get worked up over prostitution. If he was using government money for it, I would be fired up. This just sorta makes me giggle.

Considering the amount of time and money he spent, and reputation he built, off prosecuting prostitution (which is still against the law), I think it's both a moral and a crediblity issue. He's spent a year digging up dirt on his opponents, and many of the issues he tagged them with could be seen as personal or giggle-worthy (racehorse ownership for example). In context, it's not a silly dalliance as much as it's hubris/hypocritical/dishonest and illegal.

Gotta wonder why he had a money-for-services "escort" when he could have gone the money-for-services "lobbyist" route that McCain used. That scandal blew over in about 48 hours.

The local press is DELUGED with Spitzer news. MJ and Sara, same there? The latest is that this has been going on for YEARS, so as he was prosecuting prostitution rings as AG, he was using them.

I can't abide a hypocrite. I don't care what party you are. I'm SICK over what this is going to do to the party here.

I heard $80K in the past few years spent on prostitutes. Whether you think he should be pilloried for prostitution, I'd worry about a governor spending that amount of money on just about ANYTHING.
