| | There's a gol-darn dandelion in my yard. In full-bloom, none-the-less.

It's a good diuretic!

| | I'd rather make some wine.
But I've never eaten dandelion...you eat the greens, right? And this would be the time of the year to eat them, when they are fairly young and tender?

| | Ok, here's what to do with dandy lions, well, if you don't fertilize your lawn, that is. If you have recently, then don't eat the dandy lions.
Pick the dandy lion greens. Boil some pasta. In the last few minutes of boiling, throw the dandy lion greens in the pot with the boiling pasta (spinach works if you don't have any or don't have enough dandy lion greens). Finish boiling, and drain. Return to the pot. Throw in some butter, some garlic, and some parmesean cheese. Salt and pepper to taste. And boy, does it taste good!
I made this recipe for my ecology class one time. Most people's "natural" recipes sucked. My was awesome.
And, dandy lion wine is not easy to make. You need special pots and bottles for it to ferment in and stuff. My grandfather used to make it. It's not easy. |

| | Hear, hear!
I will only add--the best time to pick the greens is before the dandelion is actually blooming. You can still eat them after this point, but they get really bitter late in the season. Picked young enough, they can be eaten raw in a salad.

| | Erin picked the most beautiful handful bouquet of dandilions and a few other tiny yellow flowers from our yard the other day, and just as I was getting ready to take her picture, she suddenly swerved and threw the whole thing in a hole her brother made and said, "Let's make a fire!"
Don't worry, Sean's not a pyromaniac - he likes to play fire by piling up sticks he finds around the yard, and pretending that's a fire!
