| | I am experimenting on my family... | | Dinner tonite is a "white" pizza with ranch dressing as the sauce, brocolli, ham and cheddar cheese as the toppings.
Then I'm going to make chocolate chocolate chip cookies and stick pieces of peppermint candy canes in them.
I'll let y'all know if anyone survives the evening.

| | My first gut response: EEEWWWW.
Then again, I hate ranch dressing. YMMV.

| | The pizza turned out great. Not a speck left. Boys gobbled it right up.
Now on to the cookies. Hubby is off to the store because I don't have enough candy canes to do them all.
Lynn

| | Yeah!
So, did you actually bake the ranch dressing?
I could make this! I could use FF dressing, no ham, and fat free cheese! I can also guarantee that hubby won't touch it, but I would eat that!
Have fun with the cookies!!! |

| | Yeah, what I did with the pizza was used a dough mix and made the crust, then squirted a bunch of ranch dressing on the crust (unbaked) and loaded it up with the ham, brocolli (I just used frozen that I thawed out) and cheddar. Baked for 15 minutes and voila!
The Gourmet Veggie pizza that I adore from Pappa Murphy's uses a white sauce that I believe is ranch-based. That's where I got the idea.
First batch of cookies is baking. The candy canes have been reduced to red and white striped blobs in the middle of the chocolate cookies. They look pretty! We'll see when they are done baking and cool off!

| | That sounds absolutely delicious!! I've made veggie pizza with ranch dressing and cresent roll dough, but never thought to use it on regular pizza dough. Given my dislike for tomatoes, this would be a fantastic idea!

| | Lynn, I always thought the white sauce on pizzas was Alfredo sauce.
Did you try the best pizza in the whole world while you were visiting NY for the walk?
New Yorkers wouldn't cook pizza with ranch dressing!
MJ, do you ever get pizza from Cinelli's on the Elmont/Franklin Square border? (I know that's near your in-laws....)
We think it's the best pizza in that area. My hubby likes their
"lasagna pizza" with the big spoonfuls of ricotta cheese on the top.
I don't know how chains like Pizza Hut survive on Long Island (in most parts of the country, that's all we're stuck with.) |

My kids like it though. But they'll learn.

| | We have several around here that like ranch dressing on their pizza. They'll hit the pizza buffet first and then the salad bar spreading the dressing on their pizza.
I'm with you, Rich. YUCK! (unless you're eating some of the local crap they sell here--anything on that stuff would probably be an improvement) |

We don't do pizza much except the frozen kind (that I doctor up with our own favorite toppings, fresh). Will have to try them - I've seen them, didn't know they were so good!

| | I've found that the local pizza palaces, wherever they are, usually do a far superior pizza than the chains. The only exception is that I love the sauce at Dominos, but that's the only thing I like about chain pizza.
Then again, I always order veggie pizza with extra sauce and NO CHEESE, so I may not be your typical pizza maven!

The worst 'local pizza' is better than the best 'chain' crap !!
Well, almost always...:-)
...confused...but not about my pizza...

...confused...but not about my pizza... | Unless you are in Italy. If you go to Italy, I strongly recomend you don't order the pizza. Even if you think that the pizza you already eat is Italian pizza. It's not. Theirs is gross.
Just like Chinese restaurants "Americanize" their products when they open businesses here, Italian places do too.
Oh, and if there is a Pizzeria Uno around you, they'll break the "local is better than chain" rule in many cases. |

| | If you're ever in the Buffalo area ....
Delaware Avenue, Kenmore (the village bordering Buffalo to the north). Scirri's. Awesome pizza and the sauce is fantastic. Made USA today 10 years ago for best pizza for lowest price ($3.50 for a medium pizza.) Thin crust, just the right amount of cheese, and a line that went around the block when I was a kid. And a real-live juke box too.
