| | I've spent $10 on no-name coffee makers at the not-quite-dollar Dollar Stores. I've spent $50 on fancy-shmancy coffee makers at department stores. The $10 ones seem to make as good a cup of coffee to our plebian taste buds, and for some reason last longer. Go figger.

Close to $100, but you don't have to wait and hubby swears by the taste. I don't drink coffee, so I personally don't care, but he has insisted on a Bunn for the last two that we've had.

| | How long did your last two last? I read tons of reviews last night, and I don't know what I want. I'll make a list:
I want the coffee to be really hot when it's done. Mine started out at sorta hot, and by the time it died it was only up to lukewarm.
I think I want stainless steel pot. Unless I don't - does it retain flavours? If so, I don't want that. I also don't want the coffee to taste metallic, not even a little bit.
I want something which is going to last for more than a couple of years. I am liable to start my rant about living in a throw-away society without much provocation, so I'll leave it at this.
I thought I wanted the one which grinds then brews, but after reading reviews I defeintely think I don't want this. I prefer my ground coffee in the basket and not tossed out onto the counter and floor.
Does any maker come with an auto turn-off? I still have trouble remembering to turn it off when I go out. That's not a deal-breaker, though. I can set the oven timer. |

| | Cindy, I think the first one last three years. It started leaking, and we got rid of it, and then Dan talked to someone who told him it was a simple part replacement that he could have done himself for next to nothing. The second one has been in daily use for two years and is still going strong. I know people who have had their Bunns for years (yes, that's one for the context thread ).
The coffee is so hot when it first comes out, he has to let it cool a little. And he almost never turns on the burner unless it's going to be sitting for a while.
Pot is glass. Which HAS been a problem for us. We've broken a couple (placement of coffee maker, duh) and the replacements are not cheap (around $15).
And no auto turn off on the Bunn. And if you are going to be gone and not using it for more than a couple of days, you want to turn off the tank heater so it doesn't evaporate all the water in the tank (displacement system of water heating, that's why you have a cup RIGHT NOW) and burn up the heater.

| | I have the Cuisinart Grind and Brew. It makes excellent coffee. You can get one with a stainless steel pot. It has an auto shut off (a must for me). It has pause and serve (another must for me).
It has never, ever, ever spit grounds all over the place. I'm on my second one and it's lasted for years. The only reason I'm on my second is that I got it as a gift from someone who didn't know I already had one. Since it was a newer model I retired the old one and held onto the gift.
That all being said, it has one awful, awful drawback. It's a pain in the butt to clean. Because of the grinder it has lots of parts that have to be washed with every use. And the grounds do make their way into the water compartment.
You'd have to decide for yourself whether the benefits outweigh the inconvenience.

| | I use a 12 cup Hamilton Beach Brew Station, which uses no carafe. It has a timer to get it started in the morning for you, and an auto shut off after two hours. The coffee is pretty hot coming out of the machine, but more importantly it keeps the coffee at a uniform temp during the whole two hours its still in the pot because of the no-carafe design. they also redesigned it somewhat so it is not nearly as tall - the old style was a little too high to squish under most cabinets, but the new style fits just fine.
Another coffee maker I had and enjoyed was made by Mr Coffee and it had a plastic, 12-cup 8-hr thermal carafe for a coffee pot - you could remove it and sit it on your table for 8 hours and keep the coffee pretty hot. I haven't seen it since, but it was nice. We even had an extra carafe for company who drank decaf. |

I don't make that much coffee and I have a great old fashioned stove top drip thing, but I feel like I should buy a fancy one for when we have guests. I would buy a grinding one with a timer, but I'm cheap.... |

| | I have a Mr. Coffee, and have had it for about 3 or 4 years now. It is black and has the gold filter. It has a glass pot tho. It has several temperature settings, I keep mine on the hottest, and it is fine for me. I can preprogram it, and it isn't that big of a deal to clean. It also has a filter that I change every now and then. IT will make from 2-12 cups.

| | I prefer brewed coffee over the Mr. Coffee types. So I have an electric percolator. These things (no matter the brand) last FOREVER. I use a two hour/turn on and off automatically undercounter radio to make it turn on at a certain time and automatically turn off after two hours. I received a new one for Christmas that I haven't yet used. It does have a base timer.
As for the rest, my daughter goes through them like water and they all have timers. She likes coffee and has never complained of taste, just broken carafes.
My mom and dad swear by the Bunn. This is their second one in ten years and my dad likes that you can have coffee whenever you like without a long wait time.

| | We got my mom the one that brews into a carafe. After the initial problems of it spewing coffee all over the counter, she learned the proper placement and now loves it. |

| | I used to use a percolator too. An electric one. I had a 4 cup pot and a 12 cup pot. I don't know why I changed. I think it might have been because of the timer thing. My percolators did not have a timing mechanism.
Nothing is worse than a bad cup of coffee. Or a cold cup.

It works great (I still use it for guests who prefer decaf, or a flavored coffee), but we replaced it with a Cuisinart carafe free maker. I love the Cuisinart and it does have auto shut off and it keeps the coffee hot. The only bad thing with it is when I fill it, I tend to spill the water all over the place, but a funnel took care of that problem. (The opening is not very big.) Even after it shuts off, the coffee still stays hot for awhile.

| | I went to Target and looked at all of the suggestions. I love the way the Hamilton Beach one like Leslie's looks - it's what I would have bought if the lever wasn't so easy to trun on. Moody would try to serve coffee to the collies without a doubt.
I am reading reviews and trying to decide between a KitchenAid with auto-off switch or a Cuisinart, not the grind kind. I'm priced out of those. I love getting help from you guys! |

| | I had(key word is had here) a Mr. Coffee that had a timer-I loved it until a couple weeks ago when I forgot to dump the filter and when I went to make coffee this week-I found a whole lot of mold.
So, I will be buying a new coffee maker this weekend. Probably the same kind unless I can find something I like better-I don't want to spend over $40 for a coffee maker, I don't use it more than 2 times a week if that-I typically have hot tea with lemon or milk when I get to work.

| | I have a gold filter in my Mr. Coffee, and I do forget to empty it, sadly, quite frequently. I guess I have been lucky. No mold. I am always afraid it will happen. But, so far, so good!
My BIL and SIL bought me a big bag of some kind of coffee, a breakfast blend. It was very good this morning. I think I will be indulging more than I usually do this week!!!

| | I've gotten it if I go away for a weekend... or when I was nursing 24/7 and not drinking any caffeine (I don't see the point of decaf) and would forget after making coffee for someone.
It might form faster with flavored coffees due to the oils. |

Or were you just wishing that there were such a thing?
Don't mind me, I've got a headache today.
