| | I bought beets when I was out today. They had tiny ones which looked really yummy. I almost wish I could just forget about the turkey and make all the side dishes - yum! |

| | LOL Cindy. I'm the same. My mother, on the other hand, has no use for the turkey at dinner... she just wants turkey sandwiches later. AND she actually went out and found the soy mayo substitute we use for the boys so that THEY can join her with turkey sandwiches this year.
I'll just be sitting with the stuffing and the sauerkraut, tyvm. |

| | I've been known to get up from the diningroom table, go to the kitchen, grab some bread and the jar of mayo, and sit back down to my Thanksgiving feast to construct a sandwich
I can eat it without bread and mayo now, tyvm |

| | My photographer husband, he of the 6 cameras, did not bring ONE with him.
No, I didn't think to ask him. He never goes anywhere without a camera. NEVER. Except this time.

| | Pipp - you have to give your mom credit for thinking of the boys diets and getting the soy-mayo, even if you are bothered by the sandwich thing - she included them.
Soups on. We're not making turkey so we haven't started cooking anything else yet. Stuffing, sweet potato, brussel sprouts - they're all fast. I should probably go make the cranberry sauce now. |

| | LOL. Oh, I know she was. This year they have THREE pies to choose from, plus the sandwiches. I'm just laughing that she started out thinking about the sandwiches and not the dinner.
Oh, and the sauerkraut... you start it early. Do NOT rinse it. And just slow-cook it, adding some of the turkey juice. It ends up less vinegar-y than straight out of the jar. |

| | I looked. I saw references to it, but I couldn't find the actual recipe. It's very simple, I'm just not sure how much sugar to use. I looked online for other recipes, so I'm guessing a 1/2 cup will do it. I'll go try. And the store was out of oranges, so there won't be any zest. |

| | The former-Floridian went to the store and there were no oranges. I know that's not true "irony" but I don't have another word for what that is...
Thanksgiving is over for me. I went early. We had shrimp cocktail, french onion soup, salad, turkey, mashed potatoes, broccoli, garlic roasted asparagas, there was gravy, but I don't use it, and stuffing. Oh, and garlic bread, just because there was. We had pumpkin roll for dessert.
After we ate we went for a walk. It's the first time we've done that in years. It was quite balmy out.
Then my uncle left and I started going through my parents' newspaper to see what I want to do tomorrow. Then my mom got out her credit card and ordered my Christmas present.
I got to show her some of the things I've written for work and catch up on gossip. It was good.
I'm stuffed (still) and exhausted. All in all, a good day.
I was very worried that today would be hard, because, it's the first big holiday since my grandma died. But, my uncle said right away "this isn't our first Thanksgiving without Mommy, it's our second." My mom and I looked at eachother, and back at my uncle. He was right. Last Thanksgiving my grandma didn't come to my house. She had to stay in the nursing home. We brought her a piece of pie and she choked on it. It was horrible! She was ok though. But once we remembered we had that meal without her before, it seemed to get easier. |

| | It's over over here. Too much food, thank God I've got a dishwasher, and everyone seemed to have a good time.
For Pippa, who appreciates my bat-sh!t-crazy BIL stories:
BIL furtively went over to a side cabinet where I had an unopened bottle of rum and an unopened bottle of Baileys sitting there. My SIL and I are the only ones who will even drink wine, and I just happened to put these bottles there when rearranging things this morning to make room for stuff. BIL played around with the cap of the Baileys until I heard it snap open. Then he put it down and started to walk away from it. I called over to him, "Hey, go ahead, have some if you want." Looking embarrassed that he was seen, he sort of half-smiled and shook his head, avoiding eye contact with me and scurrying away from the cabinet. He also made an out-of-the-blue gratuitous crack to my Little Old Man I Drive to Church on Sundays about Masonry.

| | Oh God.
I am so full.
And chocolatini's taste just like baileys except there's more alchohal.
The packers won and we've been drinking since 11...I alternated between alcholhol and non-alcholhal but I'm still woozy.
Went for a walk with the dog around 6:30.
GREAT Thanksgiving, maybe the best ever. Photos to come (per Amy's request.)
