I miss the old Quick Meal Recipe days....I know most of you don't, for good reason, but I'd love to write a QMR piece with Claussen Sweet Pickle Relish as a center point.
Here's the scoop:
Don gets the credit for finding it. The kind we buy is in a jar in the refrigerated section. Claussen also sells a shelf-stable (not refrigerated) kind in a squeeze bottle. It loses a good bit of the crunch and zing when they make it shelf stable, so we only buy the jar kind.
It's not easy to find, even if you are in a store that sells it. Our store doesn't keep it with the rest of the Claussen Pickles, it has it by itself, in the refrigerated section near the deli counter.
I can't even find a dang picture of it on the net to show you what to look for!
Claussen Sweet Pickle Relish, refrigerated!, is what relish was supposed to taste like only you never knew it before. My current obsession is making Tuna Melts and I throw a ton of the relish into the tuna salad when I mix it. Between that, and the Vadalia onions that are now in season, I'm making a little bit of heaven with every Tuna Melt.
