Claussen Sweet Pickle Relish

I miss the old Quick Meal Recipe days....I know most of you don't, for good reason, but I'd love to write a QMR piece with Claussen Sweet Pickle Relish as a center point.

Here's the scoop:

Don gets the credit for finding it. The kind we buy is in a jar in the refrigerated section. Claussen also sells a shelf-stable (not refrigerated) kind in a squeeze bottle. It loses a good bit of the crunch and zing when they make it shelf stable, so we only buy the jar kind.

It's not easy to find, even if you are in a store that sells it. Our store doesn't keep it with the rest of the Claussen Pickles, it has it by itself, in the refrigerated section near the deli counter. I can't even find a dang picture of it on the net to show you what to look for!

Claussen Sweet Pickle Relish, refrigerated!, is what relish was supposed to taste like only you never knew it before. My current obsession is making Tuna Melts and I throw a ton of the relish into the tuna salad when I mix it. Between that, and the Vadalia onions that are now in season, I'm making a little bit of heaven with every Tuna Melt.

Here's a bizarre link on Pickle Waste I discovered in my travels.

When's lunch? Sounds great!

I actually used to make a similar tuna melt, but for variety, I sliced thin - and I mean wafer-thin - a cold apple.

The apple mixed very nicely with the relish and onion.

We admit to eating some strange stuff, don't we?

(And QMR had its place, but not as a paying (banner or content) category.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Pluckyduck's Love of Relish

I absolutely LOVE the Claussen Pickle line and won't buy any other brand. Fortunately, my grocer carries almost the entire line but rarely has the Bread and Butter pickles in stock, which is not a problem for me but my partner whines about it constantly.

Anyway, I can get the small jar of relish for $1.35 and use it when I make deviled eggs, potato salad, and tarter sauce.

I love pickles and started making my own last summer when I got on a salsa and pickle kick. I think I have made just about every variation known to mankind. If you ever want some decent recipes let me know. I am also more than willing to ship you the relish if you need a fix some time.

Oh by the way, I was thrilled to see you wrote a new review.

Take care.

I LOVE their mini kosher dills. Problem is, I can't keep a jar in the house. Within 5 minutes of opening the jar, the kids have eaten all the pickles.
