Pepsi Twist

According to this story from the NY Times, Pepsi is introducing a cola with lemon flavor.

I know for a fact this is nothing "new" to them. I distinctly remember their old product back in the 70s or 80s which was a blue can with a slice of lemon on the side.

But for the life of me, I cannot remember its name. Was it Pepsi Light?

Anyone remember?

(This was my mother's Drink of Choice for the longest time--two or three years--while she was going through one of her many dieting fads. While I am a dyed-in-the-wool Coke-aholic, I do remember thinking this lemon-cola thing wasn't bad at all....)

Yup, Pepsi Lite with the lemon flavoring added to distract you from the sacchirine (sp?) aftertaste... or maybe to make you think it was SUPPOSED to taste like that, as if the aftertaste was actually lemon... marketing psychology and all that

I haven't seen Pepsi Twist, but my local Costco has Diet Coke with Lemon. I haven't seen this advertised anywhere and until I taste it, I'm not buying 24 cans (even though Diet Coke is my drink of choice). Has anyone else seen it or tried it?

Diet Coke with lemon is now out nationwide.

We have always lime or lemon with a Diet Coke when eating out, so Kalynda and I were very happy to see this. It's okay. The lemon flavoring can get toned down a bit, but it's a nice diversion. Not for everyone, though.

I had a lunch with a colleague last week at a deli and poured some of mine into his glass. This guy drinks 3-4 DC a day and simply shrugged.

Jared (the youngest whelp in the brood) has guzzled most of a 12 pack over the last week.

I remember when Cherry Coke was making its first appearances and all the hype surrounding it...

Well, not much hype at all, if I remember correctly. But darn it, the samples had the cherry flavor maxed out, and the real stuff that came out of production was pretty light on the cherry flavor.

For some reason, I prefer real lemons or lime twists in benerages, when I'm not dipping Frangelico or Amarreto into them for flavor... heck, pass the rum.

I remember that as well as the Pepsi Light Grouch started us off with. I also remember my mother buying an awful lot of Tab ca. 1970 or so.

I tried the Diet Coke with lemon-not very intense lemon so it was barely different from the regular. Maybe slightly less awful.

I like a slice of lime in the real thing. Of course, i like a slice of lime in nearly everything. I'llprobably pass on the Pepsi-read my epinion of it and you'll understand. Strangely , Pepsi One isn't half bad.

I have never heard of lime in cola. Too weird.

They still sell Tab, I believe. It was my favorite soft-drink as a kid. My mom wouldn't buy it for me, so I always looked forward to plane trips, since planes always had Tab!

I don't remember clear pepsi or pepsi lite. I enjoy pepsi one.

You can still find Tab in NYC in a few places -- not one of my top faves so I couldn't say exactly where.

There's still a place in Indy that serve Tab, but I can't recall where (I think it is over by the 500 racetrack -- I was surprised to see it offered).

I remember Crystal Pepsi. My sister still has a bottle somewhere, I think.

Ah, the power of marketing -- sell the same product in a new way...

I'm a Diet Coke Junkie and I tried the lemon one-not bad but it's not Diet Coke~ it's hard to explain but it's just too different! I'm trying to pawn my extra cans off on unsuspecting guests-unfortunatly it appears that one diet coke w/ lemon is the limit for anyone!

I tried the new Lemon Diet Coke the other day. It actually was better than I expected, but I'm not sure I'd like it with food. A little too lemony. Good on its own though!

How about this one, though:

Anyone remember all the hullaballoo surrounding.... New Coke?? I really liked the New Coke, but I seem to remember Coca-Cola Classic being born out of the backlash....

I didn't like the new coke.

You can't beat the real thing. Coca Cola Classic.

Vania- I wrote an epinion about the truth behind "New Coke." (And incidentally, the guy I was dating then was such a Coke fanatic he went everywhere he could find the "real thing" and bought dozens of cases of the stuff. Being offered one was nearly a proposal.)

New Coke was a ploy- Coke had decided to allow the use of corn sweetener instead of cane sugar. It's cheaper and tastes almost the same-emphasis on the almost. "New Coke" debuted and flopped. "Classic Coke" was the old formula with corn syrup now substituted for sugar. Enough time had elapsed that most people wouldn't notice the subtle difference. Real Coke lovers do, though. A few bottlers still use real sugar and are prized by fanatics. Coke bottled in Mexico also cntains sugar-it's cheaper than corn syrup there.

Several groceries here carry Mexican Coke and there are plenty of us willing to pay about double for the vastly superior taste. I even have to ship the stuff to my out-of state college student daughter as a treat.

If you get the chance to drink really original Coke, do it! Wish I had one now-after this and the Vernor's thread, I need to make a junk food gourmet run tomorrow.

No one on this thread has yet stood up for the superiority of Dr Pepper.

I am crushed.

Ngeh! Are you one of those crazy nutbars who drink Dr. Pepper with a twist of lime in it? My hubby's family does this, and I find it nothing short of bizarre.

So, does anybody put peanuts in their Coke?

When I've got a few spare calories to add to my diet budget, I allow myself this luxury. Learned it from a down-home hick boss of a boss back at PBS.

Oh, and I just got a 4-pack of the diet Coke with lemon... might as well give it a try and see how bad it is. It's chilling right now.

No, but I'll put (green) olives in my beer. Poor man's martini was what we called them in college.
