| | My husband is out in the Gulf of Maine somewhere, so I get to eat whatever I want. Tonight's menu:
Szechuan green beans (stir-fried in a REALLY HOT wok, then dressed with chili-garlic sauce, sesame oil, and garlic).
Noodles Alfredo from a package.
Warm Toll House cookies from a ready-made package.
Anyone care to confess your unconventional combinations? (that you've actually eaten - anybody can make up stuff).

| | That actually sounds like a really good meal, not odd at all.
The combination that most people think is weird is a peanut butter and lettuce sandwich. It's not as off the wall as you might think - the lettuce adds crunch, almost no flavor, and the water in it keeps the peanut butter from sticking to the roof of your mouth. |

| | Yeah, on second thought, it isn't so weird; the creamy noodles mellowed the hot stuff beautifully. It's just that I'm sort of compulsive about ethnic consistency and would never have dreamed of anything but rice (preferably jasmine!).
DH claims that PB sandwiches are improved by adding smashed potato chips. Or sweet pickles. I remember kids at summer camp doing this too, so it must not just be his usual oddness.

| | OK, I don't think it is that strange, but then, I ate these compulsively when I was pregnant:
Toasted wheat bread with crunchy peanut butter spread on one half and Nutello spread on the other half. Yummmmm!

| | When I'm picnicking, I always scoop up my baked beans with potato chips. I love the contrast of smooth and crunchy textures. Used to drive my mom crazy, but hey! Saves on forks, right? I've expanded this now to Mexican food and eat my refried beans and rice with tortilla chips (but only if it's a very casual restaurant). I've always like chips & dips . . . just a natural extension.

| | There's a Spanish saying: "A new spoon with every bite." Actually, now that I think of it, I seem to remember this is attached to a story...the Conquistadores were impressed by the tales of the Inca (?) ruler who was so rich that he used "a new spoon for every bite." Tortillas, of course. I guess it's a natural jump from one sort of chips and beans to another.
Odd snack dept. - when I was a kid I went through a phase of mayonnaise on saltines. Heavenly.

| | As a child my two favorite sandwiches were:
Mayonaise on white bread
Pretzel and Strawberry sandwich on italian
Don't ask about the strawberry pretzel sandwich. All I can say is that it tastes good. |

| | About the only weird combination I eat anymore is a peanut butter and bacon sandwich. Nice crispy bacon on a PB sandwich is yummy! Oh yeah, I also put mayo on my PB sandwiches, bacon or not. But not if it's a PB&J.
When I was in first grade I once cut up my Jell-O, spread it over my hot dog on a bun, poured my ketchup over that - and ate every bite of it. Of course, the thought of doing that today makes me thoroughly ill!

| | Y'all are confirming my theory about the four food groups: sugar, salt, grease, and, um....something. Chocolate, probably. Anyway, some of the best unconventional combinations involve sugar plus salt.

| | Sugar plus salt......a chocolate shake and french fries! Not mixed, just eaten at the same time. Best if the fries are good and hot, then you not only get the sugar/salt combo, but hot/cold, too.
Yummmmmm
