My last sweater attempt was less than wonderful, so I tried again. Using the same yarn, I made this little sweater-jacket. With the variegated yarn, I can't get a decent photo of this one. I did a detail round of X stitch towards the bottom and around the sleeves. You can't see it at all in the photo but instead of buttons, I added ties to the opening with cork-screw dangles.

Very boring in the photo, but cute in real life. This sweater will go to Marine Corps Kids.

oooo, how do you do ties with corkscrew dangles?

just do a chain however long you like.
Then for the corkscrew, start stitching the second row - for this I did sc, but usually I do DC - but do 2 sc in each stitch. It'll start curling up in a spiral (great way to make cat toys too!!!)
I don't know if that made sense - try it - it's easy, just do 2-3 stitches in each stitch and it'll curl up in a spiral and stop when its the size you want.

Kewl. I didn't have buttons or ribbons so I gave one new mom a blue sweater and hat with nothing to hold it closed

Sometimes, especially in the spring and summer that is a good thing MJ. Sometimes you don't need to close a sweater, because the baby is in a carriage, or car seat etc, you just need something "on them", as my mom would say.

I need to make a quick baby sweater,hat and blanket--but am coming up at a loss for patterns. Any suggestions? Baby is due in September.
