New blog feature! "Worst Song Evar!" Here are the rules: Each week I will present two songs, often connected by some sort of theme. You must listen to at least a minute of both songs, even if you have...
The Bread song is worse -- at least you can dance to the LL song. I thought it reminded me of High School, but I just looked up the release date, it must have been my freshman year of college. Regardless, I spent many years of my youth dancing to that song. It was pretty common of many of the songs of that time period.
I fear the day when my future children hear the music that was popular when I was young and ask me what we were thinking. It's not like these songs were the exception. This was what the clubs were playing.
I like "Seasons in the Sun." Very melancholy. I was a melancholy child though.

Hmm, I just listened to Seasons in the Sun because I didn't really know the whole song very well. I could only think of the chorus. Ok, it's a bit melancholy, as MJ put it so well. But really, other than that, what makes it much different from other songs from the 1970s. I don't like that music (It's not a good name for it, but I always called it "Marshmallow" music) but it's not terrible.
Now elevator music, that's really crap. Here's some crap elevator music:
And this song has to be the worst of the 1970s:
This is the crap I remember playing in the dentist's office in my childhood. Ack! The world would be a better place without these songs.
OK, so the first one I sing at Karaoke regularly. The second one is one of my favorite songs of the 60's-70's by one of my favorite groups of the 60's-70's.
I would like to point out that now the music playing in supermarkets and waiting rooms is pop music of the 80's and 90's, and there are kids listening going "Yuck, worst song evar" to stuff from YOUR generation. :-P

I really don't hate the music of any generation, yours included, MJ. It wouldn't surprise me if the most represented decade in my cd collection (although all my dead albums probably skew things).
Also, I don't even hate the music of The 5th Dimension. This song is good:
Although all these terms are subjective (good, bad, crap). I might love that song because my mom sang the songs from Hair to me all the time. I'm pretty sure she's still singing them.
It was meant to be hyperbole. Although that LL Cool J song comes close. I swear I threw up a little bit in my mouth listening to it. Un. Oooh. Un. Oooh. Is this a dance song or a commercial for a stool softener?
Margaret, that's so sweet that your mum sang those to you. I always sang 'Good Morning, Starshine' to the boys when they were babies. Back in the days before they learned to roll their eyes at my music.

My grandma and mom sang "you are my sunshine" to me.
My mom had a custom version of Lullabye that she sang for me -- I sing it for Frasier and for Mimi. Puts Frasier to sleep (or at least chills him out!) every time. Mimi's still too unsure about us, but I'm sure as she comes around more it will work like a charm for her too! She barely allows me to stay on the floor with her right now, usually she'll retreat to her cage, so I can't really sing and pet her very often
You take my breath away
And I don't know what to say
Over. And over. And over. Worst song ever.

Ok - stupid songs that I just LOVE (not that they're good)
Convoy!
I used to sing it, and it would drive Brian nuts. He hated it. Then one day I explained to him that it's a ....Song ....about driving trucks......in a line. Finally he got it! When we were moving from Florida, he drove his truck and I followed in my car. The 2nd morning, we pulled out of the hotel, and I turned on the radio. I immediately called him and made him change the station in the truck
CONVOY
We got a great big convoy, riding through the night.
We got a great big convoy, ain't she a beautiful sight.
