The exact number escapes me as well, but it was in the neighborhood of 3 gallons.

| | If Mac users are interesting in a distributed computing program since this one isn't available (and you may as well use your extra cycles for something), you might want to look at Seti@home. Although not for such a good cause as cancer research, space research and the space program has led to many advances in medical and other areas that greatly enhance the lives of most of us even if we don't know it. Some of the advances directly attributable to space research and the space program:
* surgical lasers
* optical devices used by legally blind and by surgeons
* astroturf (okay, so we could have done without this one)
* special shoes that help many formerly wheelchair bound people walk
* many many more
Seti@home is not directly supporting this research, but it is bringing more attention to it in a time where scientific research funding has already been completely decimated. One of the goals of Seti@home is to provide enough visibility that funding isn't cut further.
So if you can't do the Genome projects, try Seti. It runs on Macs and several flavors of UNIX (and of course Windows too but you folks are going to run Genome). http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/

| | I uploaded my last batch HOURS ago, and they still haven't upgraded. I'm hoping this last one is enough to trade Deb for last place.
I hate being in last place.
But wait!
Once nicholemere lists her gene, I will no longer be in last place anyhow!
Nichole? How many computers are you running?

| | All right, I'm in. I'm on the sixth part of my first gene after running for eight hours. Is that normal? Or do I just have a darned slow computer?
Cindy

I think there's a study in that somewhere. Deb? Can you use this for one of your classes?
