I hope they don't make you pay for the damage.

It looks like the Statsman has dumped the Genome project. It's no longer appearing on his page.
Say it isn't so!
Plus, I can't seem to get Stanford's GAH page to load.
This looks like a job for SuperJoub!

| | Re: Genome Stats Back Soon | | Hello All,
I'm Marguerite, one of the Jill Sobule Genome people. I'm a little confused about the project. Apparently, Genome is shutting down. I started a Folding console and entered our team number (it took it), but I don't see any listing for our team. Do we exist in the Folding program? If we don't, how do we get into it? Are they going to give credit for Genome stuff, or do we start from scratch? Sorry, I just open up the little windows and don't pay attention to what's going on...

| | Re: Genome Stats Back Soon | | Hi Marguerite!
Glad you stopped by. Please feel free to cruise around the place and join in whereever you'd like.
As to GAH, where did you hear about the program ending? I haven't been able to get any info.
We haven't gotten involved in Folding, but maybe now we'll need to consider that.
George? Any word, oh mighty Genome leader?

| | Re: Genome Stats Back Soon | | Thanks Sara,
I've been snooping around for a while now, I just tend to be quiet.
Here's the note that showed up on the Genome page a couple days ago: Updates
March 8, 2004
It is with the deepest gratitude that we wish to thank all those who have contributed over the years to the Genome@home project. It has accumulated a large database of protein sequences, which will be used for important scientific purposes for many years by our group and many others throughout the world. Like all good things, however, its time has come. Over the last year we have kept Genome@home running on a very low budget by sharing much of its client infrastructure with Folding@home, but several months from now its funding will no longer be available at all.
For this reason, the Genome@home project will be terminated. While the servers will stop distributing new work units on March 10, they will remain up until April 15 to receive the final results.
Our sister project Folding@home remains on very solid financial ground. While it requires a more frequent connection to the Internet and it has a somewhat different scoring system for those who enjoy the competition, we would highly recommend it. Your continued donation of computer time to Stanford University in the Folding@home project will always be, as it has been with Genome@home, truly appreciated.
With great thanks,
Vijay Pande, Stefan Larson, & the rest of the Pande Group |

| | Re: Genome Stats Back Soon | | Ouch. That's a bummer.
Well, we all have the Folding software so it's simple enough to switch over. We just make one adjustment in the control panel and make sure the team is set up properly.
Or do we want to consider a different project? Although the thought of all of us making a decision on that makes me shudder.
What do y'all think?

Whatever you thought you were doing, Dennis, you were kicking ass at it.
We were using the Folding software for the Genome project. Now I guess we really are doing folding because the work units default to that if there are no Genome assignments coming through.

I'll let George deal with that. He's got the experience.

| | Re: Genome Stats Back Soon | | Um, anybody ever find out what’s going on for Mac users? I’m completely confused. My computer appears to work on a molecule for a week or so and then start on another one, but I’ve yet to be able to find anything anywhere anyhow anyway showing that I’ve added to the team’s stats. |

I'll see if I can find where I read that.

| | Re: Genome Stats Back Soon | | Okay, it looks like Folding does support Macs. It was only the Genome part of it that didn't.
I'm assuming that the reason there was no record of your work is that you've been crunching for a different project.
I imagine that once we establish our team with the Folding project you'll magically appear. And, I might just be able to add an idle G4 if I can get it past the firewall.

The Folding@Home stats server is busy due to too many connections. Please try back later.

I've been trying to get that page to load all night. It's not happening.

We've got team.
I guess that we all just wait for our final Genome project to complete and then switch the tab to Folding.
We have a lot of catching up to do.
Erik, you're not xperimental, are you?

But, I wonder why the team isn't ranked? Are we that far behind? Or is something not quite right?
