| | Way to go Bruce!
Joubert, I did try the Folding version, full console; three comments.
1. It's made for constant net connections, dial-ups might have problems and there is no off-line mode. A nod towards cable people.
2. Runs filter only once before first sequence so has possibly a speed advantage by not going through the same every time you restart the program.
3. Seems to have softer grip on resources (releases CPU almost instantly for other apps) but there is a few custom settings where you could get into more aggresive crunching.

| | Good feedback, Robin. I had the same experience.
I do think that the workloads sent by Folding are different than the Stanford GAH units. I was ripping through proteins, but only smaller ones.
I also noticed that FAH was less stable on Windows Me (yes, I'm upgrading soon), and I suffered several crashes. I also saw that the program released more resources to the system when the user was active, which caused a sharp decline in output.
I've switched back to the standard filter program. |

| | I just found this thread today and would LOVE to be involved - I come from a long line of medical researchers, including two Nobelists - but when I clicked on the link provided, I got an "Unable to retrieve that page" message and couldn't get anywhere.
If anyone is willing to help be get into this, I'd be grateful.

| | Real quick (since the link is down)--what is our team number?
I had to uninstall, but I've since gotten a new computer and want to try it again.

| | BTW, I am still not showing up on our team page as having made anything new since I got the new computer
I keep checking my reconfig stuff, but it all seems right. It's been two days and several protiens so far. SOMETHING should have shown up by now, especially since many members last return was yesterday. Sigh. |

| | Just can't close the lid for some reason. Which is just as well, because it's next to impossible to open this laptop back up once I close it. I already broke a nail trying |

| | There is an important announcement at the Stanford site, folks.
You must upgrade if you are using the client (0.99). That client will no longer work in just a couple of weeks.

| | I guess I'd better force an upload of all the units that have been sitting idly in my laptop.
Nothing like a deadline to get a body moving.

| | I'll be doing that too but try to hold back as long as possible. I prefer the .99: folding has way too many issues (version 3.24, already...)
On the same note: one of my PCs crashes every time I attempt to turn (folding) display on. Otherwise it seems ok. Does anybody have the same problem? |

| | I'm running Folding in the system tray. Doesn't seem very response when fast user switching is on, but as long as I'm on, it's okay.
I do see that memory hogs bog down when Folding is loaded, but I don't see how we have much of a choice. I read their boards a couple of months ago, and Folding seems to be supplying the tech power for the project. |

| | Yep, running in system tray is fine, all the other options seem to work ok too with notable exception of "Display".
It also works much slower than v.99: I have one proteine cranking already over 24 hours... |

| | I just looked at "statsman": it appears that the giant proteine/gene is very popular. Quite a few of us produced a 67.63WU (!!!) chunks this week... |

| | Do I now need to remove .99 from my system?
Also, do I need to do uploads any more? Or, does this folding@home do it itself?
Thanks. I haven't had a lot of spare time to read into this, and if you guys/gals can give me the quickie responses, it would be appreciated!
Thanks!

| Wished I could tell you, but I'm not sure of anything anymore. I can't find where you would do an upload. I was doing pretty well at first, then the thing just stopped on me. I had to dump it and reload the program to get it going again.
My laptop says it's running, but I don't think it is. Going to do the same with it. I don't think I care for this folding program. |

| | How do I get rid of the window? I've tried clicking on the X, and another one appears. I tried right clicking to close it, but, it doesn't kill it either. I need this thing minimized AND running on my task bar?
Sigh. The old client seemed more user friendly. |

| | Can't really help you people: you are right. Old program at least had not so many bugs...
It seems to work for me fine in the tray: if you are not sure what's happening, right click on it and open the log window. Scroll it all the way down to see what is the current process.
You might have to fiddle also with connection setup but | |
