Hurricane Charley Relief Funds

As a South Florida resident, I can't help but glue myself to the TV when hurricanes hit. I was very lucky this time, Hurricane Charley missed my area totally, however, so many others weren't nearly as lucky as I. With at least 19 dead, many still missing, over $11 billion in damage, hundreds of thousands homeless or without power or water, this storm was a nasty one.

At least 19 people dead; searches could take weeks, officials say

After any natural disaster, there are many people who need our help, and while most of us want to help, we're not always in a position to help everyone.

Living in S. Florida, I have donation spots where I can donate food, water and clothing. If any of you are inclined to help, and are in a position to do so, please donate what you can.

Here is a link to a Red Cross Site where you can find out ways to donate.

Thank you.

Thanks wormie for the reminder that even those far away can help out...and my thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who was in the least way impacted by this storm. The photos are just devastating.

Re: Hurricane Charley Relief Funds

This morning the cops stopped me on the entrance ramp to let a huge convoy of relief trucks and supplies pass by on the highway. I was so happy to hear it.
The situation in Western Florida is bad. There people are homeless. They have no power, have to stand on LONG lines for water and ice, and its been 95 degrees out and humid. They've lost everything. This morning I heard on the radio that they need money more than anything else. The red cross site is taking on-line donations for as little as $5. Your local offices will take even smaller donations. If you can give, please do. If everyone gave just $1 it would make a huge difference. I can't help but think "by the Grace of God this isn't me". I hope none of us every experience what these folks are dealing with.
Thank you!

Re: Hurricane Charley Relief Funds

Here in Montgomery, the Red Cross is ONLY taking money donations. It's a shame, kind of - I can't spare any money right now, but I have a lot of toiletries and food items I could donate.
