Hey everyone. You might have read in
this thread that "our" marine, LCpl Shane Conrad, is going back to Iraq this week.
What most of you don't know is that he volunteered his mom to do something for his platoon. As she put it in a thread in the admin forum,

"You know how kids "volunteer" their parents for cupcakes in the classroom, field trip chaperones, etc? My son volunteered me to send his platoon a laptop. Evidently, the C.O. is limiting laptops to one per platoon. None of the guys had one, so Shane said his mom would send one. Some things never change. I've got quite a list of things to send, and it gets longer every time he calls." |
Deb posted this only as a humorous aside but a few of us immediately saw a way for us to do something for Shane and his wonderful mom. And it will really make a difference for these Marines and their families at home. Having a laptop for their platoon will allow them to print maps and instructions for everyone before they go out on missions (otherwise only the platoon leader gets one and don'tevengetmestartedonthat) and they'll be able to compose emails for home before they get their allotted twenty minutes in the computer center. They'll also be able to watch movies and play games in their downtime.
Whatever you can spare would be most appreciated. We're keeping this simple so Shane and his guys can get their computer ASAP. If you'd like to contribute, please send money via Paypal to

Thank you.
