| | Bitching Moaning, Disagreeing, Complaining Welcome Here | | I have recently realized that the rules of engagement for this forum seem to have disappeared. Therefore, I shall attempt to lay them out for your reading pleasure.
This forum is for the discussion of Epinions. There a a couple of no-no rules to keep in mind while posting here:
a) The surest way to make an enemy in these parts is to make a "read-me" post with a link to one of your reviews. Spam just doesn't taste good with fine wine.
b) We do NOT make disparaging remarks about any Epinions members here. This means that we do not make posts such as " xxx is plagiarizing reviews. Please block him." Or "The person who rated my most recent review NH is a scumbag." If you feel compelled to rant and rave about a member who has gone astray, please confine your rantings to personal messages to your friends and do not post them on the public board.
OK, with that out of the way, I must move on to what IS allowed, welcomed, and encouraged in this forum.
a) Questions about how to use some aspect of Epinions.
b) Questions or comments about the Epinions User Agreement or Site Rules.
c) Questions or comments about the actions of the Epinions corporate office.
d) Discussions of review quality (not specific reviews - generalreview quality)
e) Discussions about how to rate in general. Again, not specific reviews.
I do not tend to post a lot of negative stuff about Epinions. I usually take my gripes directly to email these days. However, my lack of whining doesn't mean that YOU can't whine. We are NOT affiliated with Epinions staff. They don't pay us, control our content, etc. They DO read this board. Therefore, if you have issues, addressing them here will ensure that they are noticed. Please do not feel uncomfortable about ranting or whining when you think something is wrong.
Finally, not everyone is going to agree around here. If we did, this place would be a BORE. All we ask is that you keep conversation civil. Moderators will edit posts to remove flames or other negative posts about Epinions members, etc. However, moderators are not here to protect your feelings. Not everyone is going to agree with everything you say all the time. If you cannot handle objective, polite criticism, it is best that you do not speak.
A final note about the moderators - Our moderators are members of Epinions as well. They have their own thoughts and opinions and are free to speak them. Do not assume that what they say is the VOICE OF EA though. We are a collection of individuals, and even we disagree sometimes. Therefore, unless a moderator is moderating you, don't be afraid to disagree with his/her opinion. Moderators are people too.
Above all, EA wants to be the place to come when you have a question about Epinions. But we also want you to feel comfortable enough here to bitch, moan, complain, and disagree - as long as you do it civilly.
Thank you for making EA special. Without you, we would be just another message board.
Amy

| | You really should have started with When in the course of human events...
or We the People of EA...
or some such weighty introduction, for this is good. |

?? I don't see how this would work in 'board' life. Actually I am not sure what you mean. But then, I have been having a hard time interpreting the written word lately...

| | I mean if a moderator edits you and tells you not to name names, you should not argue. However, if a moderator says that Nirav is a god, and you disagree, feel free to tell the moderator he's all wet.

Well, I'll be both Mohammad and Jesus wouldn't be able to use the boldface properly, either, at least on the first try. |

| | How to explain this one?
Generally, the moderators don't need to blow off steam in the open forum. Therefore, they don't flame very often. If tempers rise though, usually another moderator offers to step in until the unhappy mod can cool down and view things objectively again.
