I can't STAND it

administrator note: While we have an entire forum to talk about Epinions bugs, the set of bugs that has been afflicting us lately is driving us batty enough to warrant a group therapy thread in ED. I took Julie's thread, messed with the title a bit, and am going to merge a few other posts in here. Bring the tomatoes. Let's get this out of our system while Epinions, hopefully, gets the bugs out of THEIR system. - Andrea

This is driving me INSANE, and I don't need any help with that!

I read a review. I rate a review. I comment on a review. I click on "return to comments" and it takes me back to the review because it decides that there are no comments. I hit refresh. I hit refresh again. Sometimes it decides to show that I've made a comment, sometimes not. I hit refresh again. I click on "Read all comments (1)" and I click on "Comment alert."

It's taking me fifteen minutes on average to leave a comment and set the alert for that review.

I leave a ton of comments.

This is impossible. I can't deal with it. I want my mommy.

Julie

Arrrgh.

I know.

They are supposed to be fixing it this week.

It has to do with the synchronization of the Epinions servers. Apparently there are a whole buncha servers (that's a technical term that means more than 2 and less than 20,000 )..and the servers aren't synching, or rather, are taking longer to synch than previously.

I have over anyone I could find who would even listen to me because it's driving me bonkers

I know Baron is trying.

In the meantime, refresh is my friend. I figure I run through all >2 <20,000 servers with refresh on one Epinion.

P.S.

I'm not shuttling this off to the bugs forum because this has become a social issue, dammit. If another mod wants to, so be it.

I'm just bonding over trials here.

As another who comments most of the time...I feel the same pain...

I usually like to 'check' my comment and make sure I closed any HTML correctly or otherwise did not totally 'screw it up'...

But anymore, two or three refreshs and I trust the Epinions gods that it really did go through and looks OK...:-)

And I didn't know this thread was here and have been crying in the bugs forum about the same thing.

Clickie.

Clickie.

Clickie.

What can I say? Sometimes a bug moves from being just a bug to being a central mental health issue on Epinions.

We need as much mental health as we can get, on Epinions, yes? I think a good chunk of us come in with our mental health glass half empty, and this bug is not helping things.

(The ED moderators are going to kill me --- quick, let's expand the subject matter! )

Do you find yourself less likely to comment? I do. I'm probably commenting half as much.

It's okay if the review is VH. But when it's less than that, I often want to comment. Since I can't, I'm avoiding rating those reviews.

I guess any one of the current bugs wouldn't 'bug' me so much as having all of them together at once. Sort of like my house -- mold, termites, leaks, etc. Any one thing, fine. All together, !

I leave many a typos... So I don't stress too much about double checking my comments

However, if I can't make refresh work and I want to leave my comment alert I just go to "leave a comment" again. The comment alert option is there too. So then the next day or so I can finally see my comment I left

Bridgette
who doesn't want to know how many commment alerts I have on eps

It has changed already. It still doesn't read smoothly, though.

No email alerts this weekend.

Red face Ratings/Comments Bug

This ratings/comments bug is getting on my nerves. I can't tell who has actually visited my latest review as the numbers keep fluctuating. I have not been able to read the comments either. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO FIX THIS? rant over. Tom Barnes

Ack, sweetie.

I know.

You know, we ordinarily shuttle all of the bugs stuff off the to the "bugs" forum here...but this last set of bugs has been so dang frustrating, I feel like we need group therapy in the main forum just to get through it.

Maybe I'll mush some stuff into one thread, just so we can commiserate together. Gimme a few minutes.

Andrea

Well, since you're practically begging us to indulge in public self-pity :)

I posted a new book review Friday night and discovered yesterday that it was inaccessible. At first I assumed the entire site was running slow and uneven, as has been known to happen, but by yesterday evening it had occurred to me to go to the "Just In" page for Books, and try to open up the five reviews immediately before and immediately after mine. All of them opened, but numerous attempts to open my own didn't. At that point I sent a bug report to Epinions, now that I knew I was getting special attention from the plague of bugs that seems to have fallen over the land like something from the Biblical days in Egypt.

Lorendiac (who was planning to post another review or two over the long weekend, but now wonders if anyone could read them if he did)

Sigh. FWIW, I posted last night with no problem.

Friday night seems to have been the killer for a bunch of reviews. You're the third person I've heard about with the exact same problem from Friday, three different categories.

We need tomatoes.
