Some of us are "...crazy people saying all kinds of crazy stuff..."

...or so says a Gartner market researcher in today's E Commerce Times.

Should Online Shoppers Have Their Say?

On the whole, Epinions reviews do just fine when compared with Amazon. Interestingly enough, the WOT (which really is a cool concept regardless of we feel as individuals about its implementation) is a key differentiator.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

The article surely made an interesting read. Thanks for putting it here or I would have never seen it.

It *is* an interesting article. I just wish there were more websites that allowed more Joe Shmoe input.

As imperfect as the concept of Epinions.com is, at least you know you're getting input - mostly - from ordinary folks who actually use the product they're reviewing. (Occasionally, in the movie reviews in particular, you'll see someone who takes a more standard movie-reviewer tack on what he sees, and yes, they're almost all men who do that. They give me the impression that they got special movie-reviewer passes to go to the movie, because they have almost no concept of what people with families, or grandmothers or machinists might want in a movie. But most of the movie reviews are from real people who paid eight to ten dollars for a ticket, or $20 for the DVD, and saw it that way.)
