Merry Christmas from Epinions

Epinions is sending gifts from Buy.com to top reviewers and category leads with the request that they review them.

These gifts are popular with shoppers but haven't received many reviews.

If you don't want the gift you receive, in a "Dirty Santa" tradeoff, you're supposed to exchange it with someone who DOES want to review it in exchange for a product that YOU want to review.

Interesting concept. I wonder what Santa is going to bring me? (Do they sell any Personal Finance items on Buy.com?)

This will be interesting, considering I'm a fictitious character...

Re: (2) Merry Christmas from Epinions

I was astonished at the magnitude of my gift! Are we allowed to talk about what we received on this board? I don't recall reading anything in the letter that forbade us from doing it, but I no longer have a copy of the letter.

I thought I would get a book....

Or perhaps a CD......

My entire family is delighted with our gift, and my teenage daughter and her friends were filming all last night.

Re: (3) Merry Christmas from Epinions

From what I've seen, other boards are discussing their gifts and Epinions staff doesn't seem to have a problem with it. What did you get? Sounds like a digitial video camera. Did I guess right?

I'm a top reviewer and got nothing in my stocking. Not even coal. Maybe it's just category leads.

Re: (5) Merry Christmas from Epinions

Yes, it was

I haven't tried it out yet, but my Dad is having a very special birthday party next week in NY, and I plan on filming quite a bit and sending it out to family members who can't attend.

Sandy, the letter I received said that top reviewers and category leads were getting gifts. It didn't mention advisors (I am a top reviewer and advisor in one category.)

But I will be very happy to write a review about this gift. I was so inspired I wrote a review that had been percolating in my head for awhile yesterday

Thank you, Epinions!

Sandy, mine hasn't arrived yet either. It's for top reviewers and for CLs, from what I've seen. Be patient.

Don't fear, partner. Mine didn't come yet either.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Re:(1)Merry Christmas from Epinions

They sent it to my parents' house instead of my new apartment, but my mom told me it's a DVD player with a 5 CD changer. Not sure of the brand or any more details. I'll pick it up tonight and provide more details. I really wanted an MP3 player or a digital camera. Anyone want to trade? I'll probably try to return to a store for credit or sell on eBay if that doesn't work.

Did anyone else just get a second email? About something coming from Amazon or B&H?

Re:(1)Merry Christmas from Epinions

It looks like it's FedEx everyone should be watching for and the gifts all sound fabulous. I'm so grateful they didn't decide to go for gifts to match the categories where we hold titles, I don't think I could happily write about another spatula.

:p

Re:(1)Merry Christmas from Epinions

I asked around at Epinions and there was only supposed to be one email. In other words, getting a second email doesn't mean you're getting two gifts. Or shouldn't.

Did they have an explanation for why some of us did get two emails?

Yes, it was an oops. The second email was only supposed to go to those who did not get the first.

Re:(1)Merry Christmas from Epinions

More questions... why did they change stores?
Why did some people not get them?
How do I know which one I was supposed to get?
When should we start panicking that we didn't get something?

Just kidding on the last one... I still can't believe we are getting free stuff, and I'm floored by reports I'm hearing about folks complaining they can't return the items for what they wanted.

Yeah, I know. It reminds me of Bridgette's coworker who bitched about her gift. Tacky.
