Epinions says "Not reviewed yet" when there are many reviews. Why?

My apologies to everyone if this is an old topic, but I couldn't find any earlier discussion of it.

On many, many movies and books, the Epinions system says that there are no reviews on items that have been reviewed often. If one tracks down one of the reviews, the link to other reviews that should work is dead, although one can find them through an outside search engine.

As an example, George Chabot reviewed National Lampoon's Animal House yesterday or Friday, but the page for his review says there are no others. That's not true, of course.

What causes this? I don't think the problem has been around for years, although it has for at least the past several months.

This seems to be an especially counter-productive glitch that would send away any casual users of the site who don't know about its infamously inadequate search function and how to get around it. Wouldn't Epinions have an incentive to fix this?

I sent the company a message about this months ago, but of course have not heard back.

Right now? The site is majorly hosed. I've seen nothing about an ETA on fixing it, but check out comments sometime... a nice portion of the K&F reviews seem to show up in H&G when you click on the comments. I see a LOT of products that come up in search looking like they have no reviews only to click the link and discover TONS of reviews, and most not recent either.

They need a decent system architect and fast. And they need to find one from OUTSIDE who hasn't been dealing with the kludged-together site for years to actually fix it instead of patching it. There are a TON of review sites up and coming that will overtake them if they can't fix the tech stuff faster than they are.

Wasn't 2006 the year of the catalog??

2006? Yeah, I thought I had heard something about that. If you remember it too, maybe I'm not crazy after all.

Lame segue alert:

But I am crazy about your idea that the company hire an outside architect to fix the system. They need to do something drastic. I'll use all my clout to get Epinions to follow your suggestion. Um, that might mean that 2016 will also be the year of the catalog.

The problem as I see it is they have this system that looks like a house with too many additions. They need a GOOD architect who hasn't been dealing with the kludge to come in, see what can be saved, and then rebuild that sucker from the ground up. With a nicer UI. I keep hoping they'll list a job and hire G.

That's even WORSE!!! Have you LOOKED at that catalog? I wonder if I should just have G send his resume and a list of things he'd fix?
