| | two small poems about donuts | | Shall I compare thee to a Krispy Kreme?
Thou art more lovely and thou art more sweet.
A donut may be lighter than a dream
But it is gone once you perchance to eat.
Sometime too bright the holy "hot light" shines,
And often is its neon visage dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
Although endowed with chocolate icing trimm'd
But thy eternal sweetness shall not fade
Nor ever shall you be once stale or smelly
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
Nor shall you ever be filled up with jelly:
So long as men can breathe you will be praised
(Can you go and pick up a dozen glazed?)

Krispy Kreme, soft and light
Hot light shining through the night
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy joyful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Sent this vision to my eyes?
On sweet wings do I aspire
Thy round goodness does inspire.
And what fryer, and what art
Do melt the sinews of my heart
Hot glazed donut in my grasp
In my hands with napkin clasp
When the stars threw down their spears
And lifted heaven with their cheers
Yes, He smiled, thy face to see
Yes, He who made the Lamb made thee.
Krispy Kreme, soft and light
Hot light shining through the night
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy joyful symmetry?

| | So who's the lucky lady who's convinced you that she's both lovelier and sweeter than a Krispy Creme?
There was much elation in my neighborhood a couple of years ago when the local Krispy Creme acquired a 'serious' kosher certification. Personally (and I do realize that this is tantamount to blasphemy, probably in both of our religious traditions), I don't find them all that terrific. |

| | Anybody who will go out and buy me a dozen Krispy Kremes deserves a poem in my book.

| | After three tries, I can finally leave this comment. I was laughing so hard the first two times that I nearly injured myself and couldn't type a coherent sentence. Curtis, you are the funniest man in the world!
And eye, I am jealous- we don't have a kosher Krispy Kremes, so I still have no idea what's got Curtis so riled up.

(You really cannot imagine how for months Shabbos meals that used to feature discussions of philosophy, religion, current events, etc. were suddenly taken over by discussions of Krispy Kreme. ) |

| | FYI, info from the source about KK and kosher: http://www.krispykreme.com/nutri2.html
Personally, I believe that God loves us and wants us to be happy, and Krispy Kreme is proof of that love.

Once I picked up a half dozen KC's at Penn Station for the ride home (to Providence; 2.5 hours) expecting to enjoy one and surprise DH with the others. By the time I got home all I had was an empty box, 10 sticky fingers, and a sticky face. And a funny feeling in my middle.
Really really neat poems :p

um, actually I'm not a donut nut and although I've lived here a while now... I've never had a Krispy Kreme

I think Curtis is completely correct in this. I mean, why else would a donut be created that melts in your mouth, puts a smile on your face, and makes you try and think up excuses (ahem, reasons, err ...) that there is more than the one donut you were alloted missing from the box?
Shannon ...
(who would easily write a poem for any woman that brought her a dozen Krispy Kremes - hell, I'd sing her a song as well)

| | Re two small poems about donuts | | Riding on the City of New Brunswick,
New Jersey Transit, Saturday morning rail
Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders,
Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail.
All along the eastbound jaunt
The train pulls out at Newark Airport
Rolls along past houses, farms and trucks.
Passin' trains that have no names,
Freight yards full of old black men
And the graveyards of the rusted Starbucks.
Good morning New Jersey how are you?
Don't you know me I'm your native son,
I'm the train they call The City of New Brunswick,
There's a Krispy Kreme at Penn Station when the train is done.
Not eatin' muffins with the old men in the club car.
Doing sudoku, but barely keeping score
Pass the paper bag that holds the chocolate milk
Feel the wheels rumblin' 'neath the floor.
And the tourists and the shoppers
Think about their Krispy Kreme
Ride their father's magic carpets made of steel.
They know that sweet round goodness will be
At Penn Station on Level Three
And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel.
Good morning New Jersey how are you?
Don't you know me I'm your native son,
I'm the train they call The City of New Brunswick,
There's a Krispy Kreme at Penn Station when the train is done.

| | Re two small poems about donuts | | The road to Dunkin'
TWO roads converged in a traffic circle,
And sorry I could not travel both
As one went south to Krispy Kreme
the other lead north to my Dunkin' dream
and I'm hell bent on stout coffee
If I took the other, and tried to compare,
that kremey delight, piping hot raised and glazed,
to a fritter that's fresh, and pumped with air;
Though as for that its leaden dough
was not really about the same,
But for that morning I could not sway
I could not leave the circular track.
Oh, should I have meltaway divinity that day?
Yet knowing how poorly I start my day,
I doubted from my Great One would I turn away.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two donut icons spoked from a traffic circle—
And I, I took the one with the Joe that helps me get by,
And that has made all the difference.
