Valley of Death

Of all the things to happen to some one, I never expected this
Out here in this place, that seems to be right from the very pits of hell
Car trouble, in the desert, a place in which one feels so hot, from the hot sun's kiss
Out here in the desert, where years ago, a lot of people fell.

So I start walking, hoping to find a fast escape from this place
Looking down at the sand, I see something that looks like wooden rail road tracks
Right off I know what these are, things from the past, things that bring the past and the present, face to face
When one sees these things, the wood looking so old, age making the wood almost look black.

The wood I see, they came from an era, from long long ago
These tracks were used, for wagon trains that unfortunately had to pass through here
These remnants just shows, how much of a hard time, those poor souls had to hoe
Them being used, for the purpose, so the wagons would not sink into the sand, from this they definitely had to steer clear.

I continue walking through the sand, and it's like I hear the voices of those from long ago
Don't suffer the same fate as I, don't become a victim of the sun on high
Get away from this place immediately, hasten your pace, you don't want to go slow
If you stay in this ungodly place, you will certainly die.

Maybe what I am hearing is only in my mind
But to me these voices I hear, their message is very clear
Don't end up like we did, from an unescapable bind
The longer I walk, the more my very being totally fills with fear.

Soon I see what can only be a road and a way back to civilization
But as I look behind myself, I can't help to think of those that died here
People reaching out for a better way of life, those that ending up perishing under the very hot desert sun
This place, known as Death Valley, a place I'm sure filled the loss with total fear.
