Blinded by hate,
Blinded by lust,
We wallow in a mud-pit of selfishness.
How did we get there?
Not on our own -
Led blindly down the path
By those who were supposed to watch and protect and teach.
Gone are the guardians of yesterday,
The teachers, the parents, the neighbor down the street.
They've abdicated their responsibilities
For the fancy car, the expensive vacation,
For their own lusts and selfishness.
Is it any wonder that no one can be bothered
To say "Hello" on the street?
To stay civil in the midst of disgreement?
To simply "Love thy neighbor as thyself"?
YOU are the answer...
You...
And you...
And you over there, too.
Close your mouths and open your minds and
LISTEN.
Listen to those who cry for help,
To those who look away, wounded,
To those who have nothing to say
Because they feel they are already dead.
Listen, and teach
Be, and do
What is right,
What is moral,
What must be done to preserve a world
Slowly going mad.
Be the teacher,
Be the parent,
Be the neighbor
And bring the world,
One at a time,
Out of that lonely pit. October 25, 2000
