Shake Poor poor pitiful me

The Four Horsemen and I just got back from vacation. Everything was great. Except for #4. Sigh.

The three youngest spent a lot of time at the beach, since it was a ten-minute walk from our cottage. One afternoon, I went to find them, and a lady came up to me. "If I didn't have enough money to buy something for each of my children," she said firmly," I wouldn't buy any of them anything."

I politely agreed and thought that perhaps someone needed a nap. So, she pointed out that my youngest was a real cutie, and that he needed ice cream. I told her that as was the custom, he'd already spent his ioce cream money - at 9 a.m., as a matter of fact, and therefore I felt that more ice cream was not really necessary.

She looked embarrassed, and told me that he'd begun talking with her, then shyly informed her that he was sad, because he had four brothers and that today wasn't his turn to get ice cream. She promptly took him off to the ice cream shop to get a double cone.

When I went to the shop to say hi to the owner, he said that in fact #4 had been coming in twice a day, always with someone new in the afternoon. Apparently, the manipulative small person had quite a racket going. Until his mother quite loudly and firmly explained to him the error of his ways. Having kids always brings new experiences. I just want to know why so many of them are embarrassing???

Well, you have to admit it's clever. I don't know that I would have thought of that when I was younger.

Hmmm.... have you quizzed the other three malefactors? I would suspect this maybe is a group effort?

Nah. I've met these kids. #1 and #3 would never do such a thing. #2 might try, but he'd burst out giggling and it wouldn't work.

#4, however, would affect a most touchingly piteous look and every one of his marks would melt faster than an ice cream cone in the summer sun.

Am I right, Cindy?

Yeah... I'm curious if the other three aren't in on this somehow.

Re: Poor poor pitiful me

Oh my! That is just TOO priceless!

Hey, at least he's not telling people his mother doesn't feed him breakfast!

I had a friend tell me that when she was little, she didn't eat breakfast - her choice. But she once told someone at church that, "My mother doesn't feed me breakfast!" when she got to feeling hungry before lunch time had rolled around. Doesn't really reflect well on the preacher's wife, does it?

But double ice cream... oh my! Whatta kid!

I'd say something along the lines of looks like your kid might grow up to be a future President of the US but I'm not sure if he's a natural-born citizen or not.

Too funny! If only we could harness his powers for good and not evil...(though lots of ice cream isn't that evil).

Nope, the remaining three didn't havea clue that this was going on. And Eye was right- #s 1 and 3 were appalled, and #2 was upset that he hadn't thought of it first.

#4, however, insisted that he was "...really, really sorry. Now, can I have more money for ice cream since I apologized so nicely?"
