"I can hardly wait to get our dog," said #2.
I asked why.
"Easy," he said, "washing dishes will be even easier than it is now."
I asked why washing dishes would be easier after getting a dog. I really, really wish I hadn't.
My adorable child explained that since his cat, Moody, had a very small tongue, it took him a long time to wash cereal bowls, and that a dog's much bigger tongue would be faster and therefore more efficient.
When I asked him to explain further, he told me that he has the cat wash the cereal bowls. "But it's ok, mama, he gets them really, really clean!"
And after he cleans them, then what?
"Well duh!" he said," I pick them up off the floor and put them away." 
All of my dishes have been washed in very hot water with a small splash of bleach. #2 has been re-educated. The cat is cross. I am even greyer than before.

My first fiance washed dishes that way with his dog when he was a kid. His mom caught him and did pretty much what you did - hot water, bleach... Kids. Or is it just "boys"?

You need to explain that the dog and cat are just the rinse cycle. After rinsing you still need to do the WASHING - with lots of dish soap! |

I was also hoping that the pets were just being used as a pre-wash cycle. Oh well, I suppose a little cat spit never killed anyone.
