Guess who I saw today? OMG, you are never going to believe this! I am still nearly falling over!
I saw WILLIE! *That* Willie! Willie Nelson!!!!!
We are in Nashville, in case you didn’t catch that. We are staying within a stone’s throw of Opryland, the amazing hotel complex which is full up due to a big country music festival which starts tonight.
Three of the Horsemen wanted to eat at McDonald’s. In a city with amazing barbecue, they wanted Big Macs.
So, we were standing in line when this guy walks in. Long braid, old jeans, sneakers – in short, the entire Willie costume.
I was just rolling my eyes and thinking,”loser! Trying to look just like Willie,” and continued waiting for our order. Then, the lady at the counter turned pale, her eyes got big, and she said,”Omg, are you who I think you are?”
The Willie clone grinned and said,”Well, who do you think I am, ma’am?” in Willie’s voice, and a big grin. She just squeaked, and asked for his autograph. I, of course, was for once in my life, absolutely speechless. I was staring like someone had tossed a frog in my tights, but couldn’t even move. I just stared until he left, and the counter lady was gasping and going,"I can’t believe it. It was Him!” – said reverently in a voice filled with awe. The manager told us that he often comes in when he’s in Nashville, just to get away from the crowds.
I absolutely cannot believe this day. I saw Willie Nelson! |

We had smoked brisket, beans and coleslaw for supper. They refused to eat it. These are alien children, I tell you! |

| | Not at McDonald's, you didn't! Yes, they are sickos.
Are you going to Memphis by any chance? If so, you MUST go to the Rendevous and then across the road to the Peabody to see the ducks.

| | I wish we could have gone to Memphis! In fact, I wish we could have stayed anywhere in Tennessee - we all just loved the entire state. It was beautiful, the weather was just right, and the people were some of the warmest and friendliest I've ever encountered. Tennessee totally rocks.
Nashville is *the* coolest place ever! Last night, #1 and I walked around to the bars downtown and listenend to the live music. One guy in particular was really great - his name is Craig Campbell, and I hope you all get a chance to buy his stuff someday. He was that good.
Unfortunately, the waitress who'd told us that#1 could stay in the bars until midnight was off by about two years- no one under 21 at any time of the day. So, the nice bartender had to ask us to leave. Actually, he said,"Y'all look like you're having a wonderful time, but he isn't legal. So, if you could please enjoy a couple more songs and then go on down the street, I'd very much appreciate it," with a big smile. What a nice way to kick us out!
So, we wandered around for a while, and found a boot store going out of business. And guess what? I have the pink cowboy boots I've always wanted! I have pink boots- how cool is that?! I have arrived. |

| | So, after we got boots (and did I mention that I got pink boots??) we went back to the first bar, where Craig Campbell was playing. I wanted to go back in and buy a demo CD. The band had just finished playing a song, and when I walked back in the bass player started yelling,"Sweetheart! Hey darlin'!" and waving kisses at me. I was somewhat surprised, and even turned around to look behind me.
"No, I mean you, darlin'" he yelled. "Ft. Worth, Texas, darlin'! I'm from Ft. Worth, Texas".
I looked even more confused, but smiled, because Texas is very cool. I was glad he was so proud of his roots. Or something.
Then, he pointed at my chest and yelled,"Ft. Worth, darlin'!" and I realized it was my Kinky For Governor t-shirt with the Texas flag on it that had him so worked up.
"That's great!" I shouted,"I love Ft. Worth! Now, don't forget - vote for Kinky in November!" Ok, so what was I going to say - that I am living in Canada?
He yelled back,"Kinky's my man!" and by this time, the entire audience was just roaring. It really was just the coolest thing ever. Nashville really is the best! |
