The Food Network...

...will most likely not be carrying this show, so you might want to consider coming by for dinner some evening. Or not.

#3 has discovered his true calling in life. He was really impressed by seeing Paula Dean and Emeril on their cooking shows when we were in hotels with TV. He's decided that he wants to be a TV cook when he grows up. He decided last night that he'd get started first thing this morning. He asked me for help "only if I need it, mama, and please don't have your feelings hurt if I don't need help. I am going to be a very famous cook, you know." Good, because I could quite happily be the mom of a famous chef. Especially if he learns to make biscuits like my grandma made.

This morning, he was sitting on the couch, writing in his homeschooling notebook and looking very thoughtful. He kept sighing. He'd scribble down some notes, and then frown and sigh again.

Finally, I couldn't stand the suspense any longer, so I asked what he was doing. He admitted he was starting to write the cookbook. "Because" he said, "all of the famous TV cooks have cookbooks, so I need to write one, too". That seems reasonable.

About ten minutes later, he finally came up and told me that this might be one of those times he'd need some help. Not a lot of help, he reminded me, just a little help. With two things:

1. How do I light the grill, mama?

2. How do you make macaroni and cheese on the grill?

I don't think that the '#3 and Brothers' restaurant is going to put 'Lady And Sons' out of business any time soon.

You can make Mac n Cheese on the grill. It's actually good. We do it when we camp. If your grill has a burner cook the noodles there in a pan, if not, cook them in the pan over the coals (or gas). Then drain them and put them in a tin foil package layered with cheese (real cheese), spices, some bread crumbs, a beaten egg and a dab of mayo, all mixed together. Grill it for about ten minutes till the cheese is crusty and brown around the noodles. It wont be the same consistency as regular Mac, but it is yummy.

Leslie, thanks! I am going to let him try this recipe. You guys are much better at turning the Horsemne's energy in a positive direction than I am on many days.

Re The Food Network...

If you have tin foil, you can grill almost anything.

And Amy, why did you sigh? I'm sure there's a great story there.

That does sound good. When does "Leslie Poston Cooks" come out?

Grilled Spaghetti

And is right. Not even close to "been there, done that" since I was single and didn't have to worry about feeding kids, but the story takes me back to the 10 days I lived on a 10-lb bag of potatoes and a stick of butter.

Re The Food Network...

LOL - I am working on an e-book called "Down Home Desserts" right now, which I will be selling on my web site for $14.95. Look for it (HOPEFULLY) this weekend. fingerscrossed.

Following that one will be a home canning and freezing guide, a simple and elegant meals book and probably one more. I haven't decided yet. Each cookbook will have around 25 - 30 recipes. They will NOT be illustrated beyond some simple photoshop pics (because I am on a diet, and making every dessert or dish just so I can photograph it would defeat the purpose of THAT! lol).
