I was playing with Poe yesterday, and noticed that her whiskers were all the same length. Short. All of them- really short, not wispy on the ends. Bristly, and short.

I was sitting in the living room, and since everyone was sort of wandering around, I said,"Does anyone know what happened to Poe's whiskers?"

#4 came stomping in and said "I did not cut Poe's whiskers off with scissors!"

Ok, then. Need a lawyer there, chief?

oh! That's really mean! and quite painful for the cat! All those nerve endings.... yikes. Thump him in the forehead on Poe's behalf for that one. Fair is fair.

Oh trust me, you can consider him thumped. Poor little Poe. I have no idea what provoked him into trying a stunt like that, and none of the boys have ever been intentionally mean to one of our pets. #4 cried when I explained that it would have hurt Poe, or at least made her uncomfortable. But still - the thumped thing. Yep.

I'm sure #4 thought he was just giving her a little haircut, and had no idea.

The strange thing is, she still has a few of her long whiskers. #1 checked this morning. The shorter ones are only about 1/4 inch chorter than the old ones, and #4 is still crying and insisting that he did not cut her whiskers. I am beginning to wonder if kittens get thicker whiskers at the same time as they still have soft little kitten whsikers? Usually, I would not consider believing #4 in something like this, but even his brothers believe him. Another mystery for our house.

Recently Missy apparently got into something she was allergic to, as her whole upper lip swelled like a balloon for a couple of days. Shortly after, DH noticed that several of her whiskers were really short. I also noticed more than the usual number of dropped whiskers in areas where she stays. I think they fell out!

But if they're bristly on the ends instead of coming to a point, yeah, they got cut.

CJ got busted as a kid by taking a picture with the camera he was NOT supposed to touch.

The picture was of him taking a picture of himself in the mirror.

Smooth, that one.
